Tigers vs Red Sox MLB Week 4 Lines & Game Preview

Written by on April 24, 2019

The Boston Red Sox might be the reigning World Series champions, but they’ve looked nothing like the team that went wire-to-wire a year ago after stumbling out of the gate in the early stages of the 2019 MLB regular season. Now, with Boston semi-desperate to improve its play, let’s find out if the boys from Beantown can take care of business against a Detroit Tigers team that comes into the finale of their three-game set looking to complete the sweep of their longtime AL counterparts. Check out our MLB betting odds for this game.

Why Bet On Detroit

The Tigers have won three straight and four of five while spanking Boston 7-4 in Game 1 of this series on Tuesday and following that up with a hard-fought 4-2 later in the day after Monday’s opener was canceled because of rain. The Tigers got to Red Sox staff ace superstar Chris Sale and backed that up with some more solid play in the nightcap.

“He’s tough and he’s going to punch out guys. That’s what he’s known for and that’s what he does, and you’ve just got to find a way, try to get a couple here and there off him,” Gardenhire said. “We did that — when he made a mistake we got aggressive on him and jumped him, kind of ambushed him a little bit.”

Detroit has scored four or more runs in five of their last eight games while putting 15 runs on the board over their last three games alone. For this contest, the Tigers will hand the ball to right-hander Tyson Ross. The 22-year-old hurler has thrown at least five innings in all four starts this year and comes into this contest off a decent performance in which he limited the White Sox to two earned runs on five hits in 6.0 innings.

Why Bet On Boston

Struggling Champion BoSox Take Care of Business Against Visiting Tigers

The Red Sox have dropped two straight and five of their last eight games overall, but they did manage to sweep Tampa Bay just prior to this series, so they’ve at least got a tiny blip going on the life support screen, though, it’s not very strong. After watching their staff give up 11 runs in their doubleheader on Tuesday, the Red Sox will hand the ball left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez in this contest. The 26-year-old southpaw gave up three runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings in his last start against Tampa Bay the last time out although he also gave up six runs in each of his first two starts this season.

Expert Analysis and Prediction

I know Boston is desperate and that the BoSox are playing at home, but I’m going to urge you to back Detroit for the upset road win in this one simply because Eduardo Rodriguez has been wildly inconsistent this season. The Tigers are 4-0 in their last four games against teams from the AL East and 4-1 in their last five games overall. On the flip side of the coin, Boston has gone 1-4 in their last 5 after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game and a winless 0-4 in their last four games against teams from the AL Central. I don’t like the value that Boston is offering as such a huge favorite in this one, so go with Detroit to win and get the series sweep.
