Top Straight Up MLB Betting Picks for Weekend (May 27-29)

Written by on May 27, 2016

It’s one of the bigger baseball weekends of the season because it’s Memorial Day Weekend and history has shown that if you are in first place in your division on Memorial Day, it’s more likely than not that you will make the playoffs. Here are three games on the weekend where I like the home team straight up in two of them in online betting.

Top Straight Up MLB Betting Picks for Weekend (May 27-29)

LA Dodgers at New York Mets (Saturday, May 28th)

The pitching matchup between Dodgers rookie Kenta Maeda and young Mets ace Noah Syndergaard might look familiar. They faced off on May 11 at Dodger Stadium and Los Angeles won 4-3. Syndergaard became the second pitcher in Mets history to hit two home runs in a game, driving in all of New York’s runs. Syndergaard allowed two runs and six hits in eight innings, tying the longest outing of his career, struck out six and walked one. He gave up five hits in the first four innings and then retired 11 in a row. Maeda gave up four runs and six hits in five innings, struck out three and walked two. Over his last three starts, Syndergaard is 3-0 with a 0.82 ERA, 27 strikeouts and one walk. He is the second Met and first since Dwight Gooden in 1984 to throw back-to-back outings of 10 strikeouts and no walks. Maeda carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning his last time out, but a three-run bloop triple spoiled an otherwise strong outing.

San Diego at Arizona (Saturday, May 28th)

I lean the Diamondbacks because they go with ace right-hander Zack Greinke. Greinke (5-3) allowed one run on five hits and one walk while striking out seven over eight innings to earn the win Sunday at St. Louis. Greinke was staked to a three-run lead in the first inning, and that’s all the run support he’d need in this dominant effort. After having some struggles earlier in the season, he’s now posted quality starts in six of his last eight outings to lower his ERA to 4.59. Greinke already dominated the Padres once this year, allowing two runs and six hits over 7.1 innings in a win on April 15 in San Diego. The Padres’ Cesar Vargas has been very good in five of six starts for San Diego, but remains in search of his first career win. Vargas is coming off his longest career outing, seven strong innings vs. Los Angeles last Saturday.

San Francisco at Colorado (Saturday, May 28th)

Looks like a pitching mismatch here. It’s ace Madison Bumgarner for the Giants. He was excellent last Sunday versus the Cubs, striking out six and walking two across 7.2 shutout innings en route to his sixth victory of the season. The left-hander silenced a potent offense Sunday, allowing not a single runner to advance beyond first base, and he even managed to knock in the game’s only run with a double in the fifth inning. His ERA is down to 2.17. He was 2-2 with a 3.64 ERA in five April starts, yet is 4-0, 0.98 in five starts in May. The Rockies go with Chris Rusin (1-2, 3.93). Rusin will re-enter the Rockies rotation to replace the struggling Jorge De La Rosa. Rusin was blasted by the Giants in a start on May 5 in San Francisco, allowing seven runs and 13 hits in 4.1 innings. This is the lone road team among the three I recommend in online betting.
