It’s the last game of the 2019 season between Major League Baseball’s two Sox teams as the White Sox and Red Sox close out their series Wednesday from Fenway Park. Chris Sale is a huge favorite on the MLB Odds against his former team.

How to Bet White Sox at Red Sox MLB Odds & TV Info

Why Bet on Chicago?

On Monday, the White Sox activated outfielder Jon Jay from the 60-day injured list. Signed to a one-year, $4 million deal with the White Sox back in January, Jay had been out all season due to a right hip strain. He played in 16 minor league games and got 63 at-bats, posting a .333/.354/.365 slash line. He was 0-for-2 in Boston on Monday.

Jay was brought in during the offseason to provide veteran leadership in the White Sox clubhouse, as well as to bring on-base skills to the lineup and a defensive presence to the outfield. Jay was a Gold Glove finalist last season and owns a career .352 on-base percentage over nine years in the big leagues. The Sox are set in center field with Leury Garcia and in left with rookie star Eloy Jimenez. So Jay will likely share time in right field. Jimenez, 22, is one of four rookies in White Sox history to record three-plus multihomer games in one season and the youngest Sox player with three multihomer efforts before the age of 23.

Catcher James McCann is a finalist for the first-ever MLB All-Star Starters Election, which features the top three vote-getters at each position (plus top nine outfielders) based on online vote totals from “The Primary”. The winners of the starters election will be revealed Thursday night. McCann leads the White Sox with a .324 average, which is the second-highest mark in the American League among players with at least 200 plate appearances. McCann tops AL catchers in average and on-base percentage (.387) and ranks second in slugging percentage (.508).

The White Sox’s Reynaldo Lopez (4-7, 6.23) struggled through the first two innings Friday against Texas, allowing three runs on two long home runs. But he settled down from there, hurling 3 1/3 scoreless innings and giving his team a chance to rally. The right-hander entered the game with the highest ERA among qualified starters (6.31) after allowing 25 runs over the previous 25.1 innings, and he didn’t do much to improve it Friday.

Team Stats

Offense
  • Runs: 1.98
  • Hits: 3.95
  • Walks: 1.16
  • Strike Outs: 4.31

Defense

  • Runs: 2.37
  • Hits: 4.05
  • Walks: 1.71
  • Strike Outs: 3.67

Why Bet on Boston?

Since the start of 2014, Boston is 5-0-1 in series at the White Sox’s Guaranteed Rate Field.

The injured first baseman, Mitch Moreland, been fielding grounders. Moreland is over two weeks removed from a right quad strain and he was on the injured list prior to that with a back strain. There’s no timetable for when he might be game-ready. The Red Sox rank 4th in the AL in runs per game (5.35) and are in the top 3 in average, OBP, doubles, and walks. The Red Sox and Dodgers are the only teams with as many as 5 qualifying players with a .350+ OBP: Mookie Betts (.388), Xander Bogaerts (.385), J.D. Martinez (.365), Rafael Devers (.361), and Andrew Benintendi (.359).

White Sox vs Red Sox should be an easy victory for Boston.

Steven Wright was slated to join the Red Sox’ bullpen on Tuesday. Wright has completed his 80-game PED suspension and posted a 1.86 ERA and 4/3 K/BB ratio over 9 2/3 innings in five tune-up appearances in the minors. He’ll be eased into things in low leverage situations but could wind up being a key reliever for the Red Sox.

Sox ace Chris Sale (3-7) yielded four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out eight over five innings Friday in a no-decision against the Blue Jays. Sale surrendered one earned run in the first, followed by two more in the third prior to exiting with a 4-1 deficit. The Red Sox would rally, however, taking Sale off the hook for the loss. The 30-year-old southpaw didn’t have his best stuff Friday night, but he does sit with a 3.59 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 138:23 K:BB over 95.1 innings this season.

The southpaw is winless in seven Fenway starts this season, despite having a respectable 3.79 ERA. In three career starts against his former team, Sale is 2-1 with a 2.84 ERA.
