Yankees vs Blue Jays MLB Betting Lines, Preview & Prediction

Written by on June 4, 2019

While the stats might suggest otherwise, you really can’t look at any game on the MLB schedule and peg it as an easy win for one team or another. Any team, no matter how lowly their standing, can rise up and win on any given night, even when they are going up against a team that is miles ahead of them in the standings. This is perhaps the truest when we start talking about games between division rivals, as the level of familiarity there means that winning consistently becomes a little tougher to do.

This series will represent the first time that the New York Yankees and the Toronto Blue Jays have locked horns this season, and while all signs appear to point to a Yankees win, you need to be careful about making those types of assumptions. The Yankees will certainly not be taking this series for granted, although they will open as a 1 ½ run favorite on Tuesday, with the run total set at 9.

Why bet on the New York Yankees?

It is very often too easy for teams to use injuries as an excuse of a lackluster string of performances, but the New York Yankees are not having any of that. They have been hampered by injuries to key personnel all season long, yet they have also found a way to put together a 38-20 record, which has them 2 ½ games up on the Tampa Bay Rays in second and 8 ½ games up on the Boston Red Sox, the defending champions and the team that we thought was going to be the biggest challenger for the Yankees and the East crown.

The Yankees have been stinking hot, going 15-4 in their last 19 games. They have also dominated the Blue Jays in recent meetings, winning 10 of 13. It will be Masahiro Tanaka (3-4, 3.20 ERA) who starts this one.

Why bet on the Toronto Blue Jays?

Should you bet on the Blue Jays on Tuesday?

If any team in this league needs a win and a serious reversal of fortune, it might just be the Toronto Blue Jays. They closed out last week by losing 6 straight games, taking their record over the last 10 games to 1-9. They have not really played well anywhere, but have been particularly disappointing at home, going 10-18 in their own ballpark this season.

There really isn’t any point in talking about their current standing in the AL East, as they are so far off the pace as to be already out of it. One trend worth looking at here is the O/U, with 4 of the last 5 meetings between the Jays and Yankees in Toronto going UNDER. The Blues Jays are 5-8 ATS as a home underdog. They will send Clayton Richard (0-1, 3.38 ERA) to the mound for this one.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

What we have here are a pair of teams heading in very different directions. I know I said that a lesser team can beat a better one on any given night, but I don’t believe that this is that night.
