By the time we get done with the German Grand Prix this weekend, we will have reached the midway point of the 2022 MotoGP season. For those riders out in front, they will be pleased with their performance, but they will also know that there is a lot of racing still to come before someone is crowned as the champion. If you look at the top of the standings right now, you will see that we have a very good race going on, but the question that needs to be asked at this point is whether someone can get on a second half run that changes everything. For now, we are taking it one race at a time, starting with the German Grand Prix, which is set to go this weekend. Let’s take a look at the current top 4 MotoGP betting lines in the rider standings.

Fabio Quartararo

Compared to last season, where he picked up 3 wins in the first 6 races, Quartararo got off to a relatively slow start. From Race 5, where he won in Portugal, Quartararo has been in great form, picking up another win and a pair of podium finishes. The end result of those first 9 races of the year is that he is back in the #1 spot, which is how he ended last season. The defending champion is on fire at the moment and is beginning to open up a bit of a lead at the top. He has 245 points, which puts him 36 points up on the chasing pack. He had a good run in Germany last year, finishing 3rd in that one.
Francesco Bagnaia

The battle for 2nd and 3rd in the overall standings is about as tight as it gets, with Bagnaia holding onto the #2 spot by a mere 5 points. His sole focus, though, is on running down Quartararo at the top of the standings. What has hurt him of late, though, has been an inability to finish races, as Bagnaia has now been forced to retire in 2 of the last 3. That’s a lot of points to leave on the track, especially when the battle for top spot is so close. He will be looking to close the gap this weekend, but he is probably going to need to do better than his 5th place finish in Germany last season of that is to happen.
Aleix Espargaro
Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix | Check Aleix Espargaro to Win MotoGP
If you are looking for consistency this season, then look no further than Espargaro. He had a bit of an odd start to the season through the opening 4 races, although he did manage to win in Argentina during that stretch. He got right back into the championship picture by delivering 4 straight 3rd place finishes before finishing 5th last time out. That has him just 5 points out of second, but he needs to turn those podium finishes into firsts as soon as possible. Espargaro finished 7th in Germany last year.
Brad Binder

If truth be told, it is the top 3 who look the most likely to be battling it out for the top spot at the end of the season. That’s not to say that someone else can’t have a strong second half and change things up, but you so have to wonder who that might be. Binder is the closest to the top 3, but he is also still looking for his first win of the season. He needs to get going soon if he is going to get right in the mix.
