2020 Catalan GP Expert Analysis – MotoGP Betting

Written by on September 24, 2020

If you are a fan of motor sports and love an exciting championship race, then you need to start tuning into MotoGP. The top 4 racers there are all separated by just 4 points, while the 4 sitting off the pace can crack into that group with a win this weekend in Barcelona. This looks like a championship that is going to go all the way down to the wire, which only makes an already exciting sport that much more fun to watch. There are, including this one, 7 races left in the season, and with things so tight, you can bet that we are going to see some changes in the standings in the coming weeks. Let’s take a look at the current top 4 in the standings and talk about how they might get on this weekend so you can wager on their MotoGP odds.

Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya | MotoGP Betting Analysis

Andrea Dovizioso

The last few weeks have seen Dovizioso struggle somewhat, as he has failed to land a podium finish since winning in Austria. In the 3 races since then, is best finish is 5th, but that early season form, as well as some surprise results, have seen him maintain the top spot in the standings. He is not going to be able to stay there, though, if he cannot start putting some consistent performances together in the final weeks of the season. He won here back in 2017, but he has failed to finish in each of the previous two races at this track. A similar performance this weekend may see him drop out of the top 4.

Fabio Quartarao

No racer got off to a better start to the season than the Frenchman, who won the opening 2 races of the season. Things got progressively worse from there, but he did make a bit of a return to form in San Marino last weekend, finishing 4th. That performance leaves him just 1 point off the pace being set by Dovizioso, so he has a shot at taking the lead if he can put in a good run in Barcelona. You certainly have to like his chances, as he has a 1st and a 2nd in each of his last two runs at this event. I like him to get the win.

Maverick Vinales

As mentioned earlier, a single win could propel any number of racers into the top 4 in the standings, which is exactly what happened to Vinales last weekend. He picked up the win in Spain and is now within 1 point of the top spot. Besides that victory, he also has a pair of 2nd place finishes, but this weekend may well prove to be a bit of a challenge. Since moving up to MotoGP, Vinales has never finished better than 4th at this event. If he can land there again, or better that performance, it will almost certainly keep him near the top.

Joan Mir

Mir is perhaps a little unfortunate not to be on top at the moment, as his performances have certainly warranted that spot. Mir has been forced to retire in 2 races this season, but he has not finished worse than 5th in the other 5 races. He does have a win at this track, although that came in his Moto3 days. His best finish in Barcelona at this level is 6th.
