2020 Rimini’s Coast GP Expert Analysis – MotoGP Betting

Written by on September 17, 2020

Last weekend proved to be a bit of a strange one in the world of MotoGP, as none of the current favorites to win the championship had a very good showing in San Marino. That said, the final standings in that race still had an impact on the overall standings, where we now have a new leader. That is good news for fans of the sport looking for an exciting finish to the season, as the battle for first place is a tight one. It was a pair of Italians who finished first and second last weekend. Are we going to see more of the same when the action shifts to Italy this weekend, or will the top riders get back in among the leaders and the big points? Let’s take a closer look at the current top 4 in the standings so you can place your bets against their MotoGP odds.

Gran Premio TISSOT dell’Emilia Romagna e della Riviera di Rimini

Andrea Dovizioso

The Italian driver is up on top of the standings despite putting in one of his worst finishes of the season in San Marino. He landed in 7th in that race, but he also finished ahead of the current leaders in the standings, picking up enough points to vault him to the top. How long he stays there, given that his lead is just 6 points, may well depend on how he does in his home country this weekend. You do have to like his chances here, though, as he has been consistently good when racing in Italy. He has not been outside the top 3 in each of his last 3 races there.

Fabio Quartararo

After an explosive start to the season, where he won each of the first 2 races, things have begun to go off the rails a little for the Frenchman. His final standings in each race since then have become steadily worse, and he was forced to retire last weekend in San Marino, which cost him the lead in the driver standings. There is still plenty of time to get back to the top, but you feel that he needed a positive result this weekend. The bad news is that Italy has not been a great destination for him, as he has only made top 5 once, which came at Moto3 level.

Jack Miller

Currently sitting in 3rd place in the standings, Miller still has a shot at being in the championship conversation, but he cannot afford many more and weekends. Last week in San Marino was not a total disaster, as he finished 8th there, but it also has to be seen as a failed opportunity to make up some serious ground on the racers ahead of him. Further muddying the waters is the fact that Italy has proven to be a bit of a nightmare destination for him. He needs to overcome that this weekend.

Joan Mir

Were it not for the fact that the Spaniard has had to retire in a pair of races this season, we might well be talking about him being on top of the standings. After all, he has been incredibly consistent in the 4 races that he has finished, taking a pair of podiums and never finishing worse than 5th in those outings. His first run in Italy at this level saw him finish 12th, but I think he improves on that this weekend. A definite dark horse here.
