There are now just 4 races left in the MotoGP season and we have a championship battle that is about as exciting as anyone could have hoped for. The riders will be in Spain for the next 3 weeks, as they have been for much of this season, before heading off to Portugal for the final race of the year. There is a chance that the championship may be decided before the final weekend, but when you look at how things have gone in 2020, it would not be a surprise to see it go down to the wire. For the purposes of this piece, we are going to focus on the top 4 riders in the standings and take a look at their chances of winning this weekend so you can keep betting against their MotoGP odds.
MotoGP Betting Analysis for the 2020 Gran Premio de Teruel
Fabio Quartararo
As he worked his way through the ranks, many people in the know topped Quartararo as a rider to watch. In his first full season in MotoGP, which came last year, he finished 5th in the overall standings. Had he picked up a win, he would have certainly been higher, but he got that first win this season in the opening week of the season before following it up with another a week later. He now has 3 wins on the season and is occupying the top spot in the standings, but it is a slender lead that is far from safe. It is going to be fun to watch and see if he can hold on.
Joan Mir
As far as consistency goes this season, it is hard to look beyond Mir. He has not managed to pick up a win this season, but Mir has landed on the podium in 5 races, including a 3rd last weekend. That finish helped him break the 100-point mark in the standings and now leaves him just 8 points off the pace. If he can continue to land on the podium through the final weeks of the season, it might just be enough to land him the championship in just his second season in MotoGP. It should be noted, though, that he is still looking for his first win at this level.
Maverick Vinales
With 1 win and 3 podium finishes this season, Vinales is having a good year, but he has some ground to make up in the final weeks of the 2020 season. The Spaniard is sitting in 3rd at the moment, but he is 18 points off the pace being set at the top by Quartararo. Vinales has vowed to come out and be aggressive in the final races of the season, but the reality is that he needs to start making up those points rather quickly. His 4th place finish last week was good, but he still fell behind Mir, which did not help his cause.
Andrea Dovizioso
At this stage of the season, Dovizioso now needs to be considered a longshot to end the season as champion. He is far enough off the pace being set by the leaders to be almost out of it, despite the fact that he is still sitting in 4th in the overall standings. He landed 7th in last week’s race and lost ground to two of the riders ahead of him. He does have what it takes to deliver a strong finish, but that needs to begin this weekend.
