This is the penultimate weekend in MotoGP, and it may be when we see a new champion crowned. We will get to that in a minute, but to begin with, we need to talk about the fact that Andrea Dovizioso will be taking a year off in 2021. He was in the running for a championship earlier in the season, but a downturn in form has seen him slip down the rankings. A break may be just what the doctor ordered, but you do have to wonder if he has something special up his sleeve in the final two races of the season. This weekend, the riders will be in Spain again, with Joan Mir looking to lock things up in his native land. Can he do it, or will we see what has been a fantastic championship battle go all the way down to the wire? Let’s find out so you can go ahead and make your bets against their MotoGP odds.
MotoGP Betting Analysis for the 2020 Valencian GP
Joan Mir
One thing that we see all the time in sports is a team or player getting hot when it matters most. That is how it has gone with Joan Mir, as the Spaniard has gone on a fantastic run of form to move up the rider standings and take the top spot in the late stages. A win last weekend has put him on the brink of winning it all, but he has laid the foundation before that, hitting the podium 5 times in the 6 races before that victory. If he can maintain that form, the championship will be his, but Valencia has not been great to him in the past. His best runs came in Moto3, but he finished 7th there last season in his first year in MotoGP.
Fabio Quartararo
At the start of this season, it looked as though Fabio Quartararo was going to be the man to beat. He came out on fire, winning the opening 2 races of the season, but he has had just 1 victory since then. He really needs to get the win this weekend if he is to keep his slim chances of a world championship alive. His recent form suggests that he might not be able to do that, although it is worth noting that he finished 2nd in Valencia last season. The reality is that he has just not done enough coming down the stretch, so I’m not sure I fancy him to win in Valencia.
Alex Rins
This season could have been a whole lot different for the Spaniard were it not for the fact that he failed to start in or complete 3 races this season. Outside of that, he has been very consistent, especially in the last 3 races, where he has a win and a pair of seconds. While finishing 3rd overall was certainly not his goal for the season, it is a further sign of progression for the 24-year old, whose final standing has improved with each passing year in MotoGP. Last season, he finished 5th in Valencia, but in 2018, he ran second in this race. Given his current form, he might be a very nice bet.
