MotoGP 2021 Algarve GP Betting Preview & Prediction

There are just 2 races remaining in the 2021 MotoGP season, but the fact of the matter is that the title has been claimed and the rest of the riders behind Fabio Quartararo are just jockeying for position. While there is nothing left to race for, Quartararo still has a shot at joining an elite group if he can reach 300 points on the season. We will get into that in a minute, but first let’s talk a little about this race. The Grande Premio de Algarve will actually represent the second time that the racers have hit this track in 2021, as they raced on the Algarve International Circuit in the Portuguese Grand Prix earlier in the year. That race might give us some clues as to which riders could potentially win this weekend. Let’s take a look at the current top 4 for the Algarve Grand Prix so you can get ready to make your bets against their MotoGP odds.

MotoGP Betting Analysis for Grande Prémio do Algarve

Fabio Quartararo

Finishing 4th in the previous race proved to be enough for Quartararo to clinch the World Championship with 2 races to spare. The question now is what he will do for an encore. Will he rest on his laurels and cruise the final couple of races, or will he go chasing the elusive 300-point mark? He needs 33 points from the final two races of the season to hit that mark, so it is certainly achievable. If you look at the earlier race on this track this season, then there is reason to believe that Quartararo could pick up maximum points, as he won in Portugal as part of his 5 total wins this season.

Francesco Bagnaia

Heading into the Emilio Romagna Grand Prix, Bagnaia was the only rider with a shot at running down Quartararo in the homestretch. He had picked up a pair of wins and a 3rd in the 3 previous races, making things incredibly interesting, but being forced to retire in that last race meant that his dream of a title died. Considering that Bagnaia finished 16th overall last season, landing in 2nd this year would be a fantastic accomplishment, so do not expect him to let up now. He was 2nd in Portugal earlier this year, so he needs to be seen as a threat in this one.

Joan Mir

Winning a World Championship in what was a challenging 2020 season was a fantastic accomplishment by Mir, but with no wins so far this season, repeating was always going to be a big ask. Mir, though, has been on the podium 5 times this season, so it’s not as though 2021 has been a total wash. His goal now will be to finish as high in the final standings as possible, and a repeat of his 3rd place finish in Portugal earlier this season will definitely help his cause.

Johann Zarco

After finishing out his Moto2 career with back-to-back World Championships, Zarco has struggled to make an impact in MotoGP. If he can maintain his current 4th place, or perhaps move up a spot, it will need to be considered a bit of a breakthrough season, as it would be his best ever finish in 5 seasons in MotoGP. He was forced to retire on this track earlier this year and was 10th in Portugal last season.
