We are heading into another big weekend of racing in MotoGP, and once the British Grand Prix is complete, we will have officially hit the midway point of the season.
Once this race is over, there will still be 10 races to come, and while there are a lot of points on the board, the odds for the world championship suggest that we are looking at a 2-horse race.

My Analysis
There certainly is a point gap starting to open up between the top 2 riders and the rest of the pack, but a lot can happen in 10 races.
If you are of the belief that someone can come from behind and steal the championship, now might be the time to get that wager on.
For now, we are focusing on the next race up, so let’s take a look at the major players.
^Francesco Bagnaia
The two-time defending champions has spent most of the season looking up at the top spot, but he is now back in what he is sure to believe is his rightful place.
Bagnaia has been turning up the heat of late and comes into this one having won each of the last 4 races, as well as 5 of the last 6.
While he is now back in the #1 spot, it is not the time to relax, as his lead is a mere 10 points.
You have to like his chances to keep his run alive in the Great Britian rally, as he has a win and a 2nd place finish in that race in the last 2 seasons. Hard to bet against him at the moment.

Jorge Martin
Winning a championship requires an incredible level of consistency, but it’s tough to stay on top when you have another rider in amazing form.
That is where Martin finds himself right now, as he has been about as consistent as it gets this season, but he has fallen off the pace with Bagnaia winning every week.
Martin has a pair of wins this season and has routinely been on the podium, but he was forced to retire in the last race, which meant zero points and losing the top spot. Top 3 this weekend looks like a safe bet.
^Marc Marquez
If anyone can come from off the pace and make a winning run, it would have to be Marquez, who has numerous world championships under his belt.
Even if he is unable to make that run, it is still great to see him back in contention after a couple of years dealing with injuries that have limited his time on the track.
The problem that Marquez has is that he is still looking for his first win of the season. He needs to find ways to start winning if he is to stay in the hunt.
^Enea Bastianini
Like we said at the top of this piece, it is tough to count out every rider with half of the season still to come.
That said, Bastianini is in the same type of position as Marquez in that he has yet to win a race this season.
How can anyone hope to close a 67-opoint gap without winning races between now and the end of the season.
That is where Bastianini is right now. Can he start winning this weekend? My guess is no.

2023 BritishGP
It is always great for a team or an individual to get out to a fast start to the season. The problem here is that while you can pad those starts early, maintaining that level all the way to the end is far easier said than done. After 8 races of the 2023 MotoGP season, we have a clear leader at the top of the racer standings, but we still have 12 races to come this year, so no one is going to be popping the champagne corks just yet. This weekend, the racers will be in Great Britain for the next race on the schedule, with those sitting off the pace looking to cut into the gap at the top. Let’s take a quick look at the current top 4 racers, how they got there, and how they might perform this weekend to bet on the MotoGP.

Francesco Bagnaia
Last season, Bagnaia won the World Championship at this level for the first time, getting there by amassing 265 points throughout the season. We are just 8 races in, and he already has 194 points to his name. He has 4 wins and a 2nd place finish to this point, but he was also forced to retire in a pair of races, which makes you wonder just how high his point total might be now if he had managed to pick up and kind of points in those 2 races. The question now is whether or not he can maintain this pace and repeat as champion, but you do have to think that he has a good shot at win #5 this weekend, as he won this race last season.
Jorge Martin
As it stands heading into the weekend, Martin is the closest challenger to the leader, racking up 159 points thus far. That leaves him 35 points out of first place, but also just 1 point ahead of Bezzecchi in 3rd. It’s tight at the top right now, so a bad weekend can be the difference between getting closer to the lead or dropping a spot or two in the standings. Martin does need to find a way to win more races this season, as he has just 1 at this point, although he also has a pair of 2nd place finishes to his name. He ran 5th in this race in 2022.
Marco Bezzecchi
If anyone is to catch Bagnaia and make this an exciting championship race, they are going to need to start racking up the wins. Bezzecchi has been a little hot and cold at times this season, but he has proven that he can win races, and has in fact taken the checkered flag twice already this season. He has a pair of podium finishes besides those wins, but he cannot afford too many more races where he finishes outside the top 5. This is just his 2nd full season at this level, so he has to be happy with how things are going to this point.
Brad Binder
We are starting to see some separation at the top right now, with the top 3 racers beginning to open up a gap on the rest of the racers. Binder is currently sitting 4th overall but he has just 114 points, which leaves him 50+ points out of 3rd. Like we said at the top of this piece, though, there are plenty of races to come and a ton of points still up for grabs. Binder has slowly been improving since coming into MotoGP, but he rarely wins, and went all of last season, as well as the 8 races this year, without a victory. That needs to change quickly.
I have read enough, I need to place my bet now. What to do?
