Just when it looks ad through the MotoGP championship is heading in a particular direction, something happens to open the door for another rider. Fabio Quartararo still has the lead as he looks to win his 2nd straight title but being forced to retire in the last race means that things have tightened up dramatically in the standings. There are still 9 races to come in this season, so that is plenty of time for things to change at the top before we crown a world champion. Right now, it looks like a bit of a 2-horse race, but will we still be saying that after the end of the British Grand Prix this coming Sunday? All we can do for now is look at the top riders to try and figure out who might be in the hunt in the UK this weekend. Let’s get right to it so you can plan your bets against the MotoGP Odds.
MotoGP Betting Analysis for the Monster Energy British Grand Prix Race
Fabio Quartararo
Like I said at the top of this piece, it did look as though Quartararo was getting set to cruise to his 2nd straight world championship. He had won 3 of the previous 6 races, as well as landing a pair of podiums during that stretch, but he saw it all come to an end in the Netherlands, where he was forced to retire. He is still on top of the driver standings with 172 points, but his lead is now down to just 21 points. On the bright side of things, this is a race that Quartararo won last year, so you can bet that a lot of fans will be playing him to win again.
Aleix Espargaro
The lone win on the season for Espargaro came in Race 3, and while he has yet to win since then, he has a run of 7 straight races where he finished in the top 5, which includes 4 different podium finishes. That has him sitting on 151 points, with his cause helped by the leader not picking up any points in the previous race. He has to keep that run going and try to close the gap, and this is a race where it might just happen, as he finished 3rd in the British Grand Prix last season.
Johann Zarco
As it stands at the moment, it really does look as though we are looking at a 2-horse race coming down the stretch. Zarco is down in 3rd overall in the standings, but he is already 58 points out of the lead right now. To make matters worse, he has also yet to pick up a win this season, so the chances of him closing a gap that large seem slim, even with so many races still to come. He does, though, have 4 podium finishes in 2022, but he finished in 11th in this race last season, so a podium finish might be a stretch.
Francesco Bagnaia
It really is a matter of what might have been for Bagnaia when you look at what has happened over his last 6 races. He has failed to finish 3 of them, but he picked up the win in the other 3. He could make things interesting if he is able to pick up wins and points coming down the stretch, all while avoiding forced retirements. He has not been particularly great in the UK, but those recent wind suggest he should not be ignored.
