With 20 races on the calendar, this is easily the longest season in MotoGP in quite some time. We are 8 races into the 2022 season, and you have to say that we are seeing a brilliant battle at the top of the rider standings. The top 2 are separated by just 3 points, with several drivers in the chasing pack still very much in the hunt. That said, those sitting outside of that top pairing need to start picking up the pace in the coming weeks if the battle for the World Championship is not to fall into a 2-horse race. The riders will be in Spain this weekend for the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya, with all of them looking to tighten thing up even more at the top. Let’s take a look at the current top 4 in the rider standings so you can get all set to place your bets against the MotoGP Odds.
MotoGP Betting Analysis for Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya
Fabio Quartararo
It has already been a big week for the defending MotoGP champion, as he just inked a new 3-year deal with Yamaha. It was a piece of news that was not at all surprising, as Quartararo is once again at the top of the pack, although, as mentioned, his lead is a slender 3 points. By this stage of the proceedings in 2021, Quartararo had already won 3 races, but he is off that pace at the moment, winning just 1 to this point in the season. He has, though, been consistently good and has not finished worse than 4th in each of his last 4 races. He won this race in 2020 before running 6th in it last year. Definitely one to watch.
Francesco Bagnaia
While finishing 2nd overall at the end of a long season is a great accomplishment, the reality is that few fans remember the runner-up in any sport. After closing out his time in Moto2 with a world title, Bagnaia took some time to adjust to the pace of MotoGP. His first 2 seasons were rather unspectacular, but he changed all of that in 2021 with a 2nd place finish in the driver standings. That included a run that saw him win 4 of the final 6 races of the season. He got off to a slow start this time around, but with 2 wins in the last 3, he is right back in the hunt.
Aleix Espargaro
This is a rider who has been around for a lot of years, but who has never really made a huge impact on the sport. In 2021, he finished 8th overall, which was his best performance since joining MotoGP in 2012. If there is one thing that immediately jumps out when looking at the past performances of Espargaro, it is that he had never won a race at this level until finally breaking that goose egg earlier this season. He is also on a run of 4 straight 3rd place finishes, so this is a rider in very good form.
Enea Bastianini
If you want to see how quickly things can change over the course of a long season, just look at Bastianini. He has already won 3 races this season, but being forced to retire in 2 other races means that he has to settle for his current 4th place standing. That very much puts the pressure on him for the remainder of the season, but those wins suggest he can make an upward move. He has not been great in this race in the past, but he should be among the leaders of his current form holds.
