If you are a fan of a particular team or athlete, you like to see them win in comfortable style. For fans of a sport who don’t have a dog in the fight, it’s much more exciting to see a championship battle go all the way down to the wire. For fans of MotoGP, we are getting another season where that race for the championship is tightening up and getting incredibly exciting. There are just 5 races remaining on the season, with the first of those set for Japan this weekend. The top two riders are separated by a mere 10 points, with a couple sitting just off the pace and ready to pounce. Points are now more valuable than ever, but who will get the big points this weekend? Let’s take a look at the current top 4 to see how things look so you can continue betting against their MotoGP Odds.
MotoGP Betting Analysis for the 2022 Motul Grand Prix of Japan Race
Fabio Quartararo
Last season proved to be a breakthrough year for Quartararo, as he won 5 races, stayed consistent from start to finish, and ended up winning the championship. He already has 3 race wins under his belt in 2022 and once again is on top of the championship standings, but the lead he had is narrowing. Quartararo has now gone 5 races without a win, but perhaps more importantly, he was forced to retire in 2 of those races, which meant picking up zero points in those outings. Perhaps he has a shot here, as his last run in Japan, which came in 2019, saw him finish 2nd.
Francesco Bagnaia
Don’t look now, but Bagnaia is on an absolute tear that has him right on the heels of the defending champion. This is following a similar path to last season, where Bagnaia finished incredibly strong but ended up falling just short of Quartararo. Over the last 10 races, Bagnaia has 6 wins and a 2nd place finish. The downside is that he had to retire in the 3 other races, which meant leaving points out on the track. Had he picked up anything in those races, he would probably be in the lead right now. In his final season in Moto2, Bagnaia won in Japan.
Aleix Espargaro
If you are going to talk about consistency this season, you need to talk about Espargaro. He has managed to finish every race this season and has only fallen outside the top 10 once. He only has 1 win on the season, but he has also been on the podium in 6 other races. Espargaro is 17 points out of the lead, so still very much in the hunt to win a world championship, although he might need a win or two coming down the stretch to make that happen, He has not been great in Japan, but this is a breakout season for him, so perhaps we can expect better.
Enea Bastinanini
The gap between Bastianini and the top spot is 48 points, which is going to be very tough to make up with just 5 races remaining on the season. He does, though, have 4 wins on the season, including a victory in the last grand prix, so he certainly is capable of going on a run in the late stages. Bastianini ran 7th in his last visit to Japan.
