We are officially at the midway point of the 2022 MotoGP season, with 10 races in the books and 10 more still to come. The second half of the season begins this weekend, with the riders in the Netherlands for the next race up. Through the opening 10 races of the year, we have a very familiar face sitting atop the standings, with Fabio Quartararo, the defending MotoGP champion, sitting atop the leaderboard. He is beginning to open up a bit of a lead, so it is incumbent on the other riders to start racking up points if they are going to close the gap and stop Quartararo from winning his second straight title. Let’s take a look at the current top 4 and how they might make out this weekend so you can bet against their MotoGP Odds.
MotoGP Betting Analysis for TT Assen Netherlands Race
Fabio Quartararo
I wouldn’t exactly call it a championship hangover, but Quartararo started the season on the slower side of things. It essentially took the 5th race of the year for him to find his groove, but since then, he has basically been unstoppable. He has win 3 of the last 6 races and has not finished worse than 4th during that stretch. He is now on a run where he has won each of the last 2 races, which has him on 172 points, 36 up on the rider in 2nd. To make matters worse for the chasing pack, this is a race that Quartararo won last year, so he is almost certainly coming in as the favorite.
Aleix Espargaro
It is one thing to be consistent, but quite another to repeatedly fall short of winning on a regular basis. That is where Espargaro finds himself this season, as he is on a run of 6 straight races where he has not finished worse than 5th. That includes a stretch that saw him finish 3rd in 4 straight races. If he is to run down Quartararo, he is going to need to start turning those close calls into wins. He does have a win under his belt this season, so there is plenty to suggest he can start getting those victories. He finished 8th in this race last season.
Johann Zarco
Zarco has been in MotoGP for 7 seasons now, making the switch after winning back-to-back championships at the Moto2 level. It has been a struggle at times for him, but he is currently sitting in 3rd and keeping pace with the leaders, all despite not winning a race this season. In fact, Zarco has yet to pick up a win at this level, which almost certainly makes him a longshot this weekend. Zarco ran 4th in this race last season, so look for him to be among the leaders again this weekend.
Enea Bastianini
Bastianini saw his time in Moto2 come to an end after winning the world championship in 2020. It’s always tough to take that step to the next level, which he found last season, finishing 11th overall. He has returned to the form he saw in MotoGP this season, though, with 3 wins already under his belt. The downside is that he has been forced to retire in 3 other races, which has cost him valuable points in the standings.
