Broncos Been Up and Down in 2023

Boise State’s season has been marked by fluctuating performances, beginning with losses in their first two games and a 3-4 start. However, victories against New Mexico, Utah State, and Air Force, coupled with some favorable outcomes, have propelled them to the Mountain West Conference Championship. Notably, during their three-game winning streak, the Broncos’ defense has excelled, allowing just 11 points per game.

Throughout the season, Boise State has permitted an average of 25.3 points per game while showcasing offensive goodness with a scoring average of 32 points per game. Their running game has been a standout feature, ranking 11th in the nation with over 207 yards per game. In their recent win over Utah State, George Holani played a crucial role with 178 yards and 2 touchdowns, complemented by Ashton Jeanty’s 100 yards and two scores in the victory over Air Force.

Jeanty has been a key contributor to the offense, accumulating 1,113 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns on the season, while Eric McAlister adds 873 yards and five touchdowns to the mix.

Rebels Looking for Bounce Back

UNLV, despite a disappointing end to the regular season with a loss to San Jose State, secured a spot in the Mountain West Conference Championship due to tiebreakers. Their defense conceded 37 points in that loss, marking the highest in a single game for the season.

UNLV has been competitive on both ends of the field throughout the season, scoring an average of 35.5 points per game while allowing opponents 25.6 points per game. Quarterback Jayden Maiava, with 372 passing yards shy of 3,000 for the season, has connected effectively with top receiver Ricky White, amassing 1,300 yards and 7 touchdowns.

Mountain West Championship Odds for Boise State vs UNLV | Rebels Take Home Victory

The upcoming Mountain West Conference title game promises excitement, with Boise State carrying momentum from their recent win, while the Rebels are motivated to bounce back. Ultimately, the Rebels’ offensive attack stands out, averaging five touchdowns per game and displaying versatility in both running and passing.

Therefore, our pick for this matchup is the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels, particularly given the home advantage and the enthusiastic crowd. We recommend taking UNLV +110 on the moneyline. We hope you enjoyed our look at the Boise State / UNLV game in the Mountain West Conference Championship. Enjoy the game and best of luck with all your bets for this game!

College Football Predictions: What Teams Can Reach The 10-Win Mark?  | MyBookie Regular Season Betting Preview

The Mountain West Conference is one of the more underrated conferences in all of college sports, especially football.

There are teams in this conference that always play havoc to some of the "power conference" teams. The 2023 Mountain West Conference outlook looks no different.

There are some very good teams in the Mountain West, and that is good news for online college football odds fans, as that means that there are a number of great games to watch and wager on. Let’s take a look at the top games that jump right off the schedule.

Mountain West Conference | 2023 NCAA Division I FBS season
Western United States | 11 teams

Boise State Broncos at San Diego State Aztecs

NCAAF Week 4
Friday, September 22nd, 2023, 10:30 pm | CBSSN
Snapdragon Stadium, San Diego, CA

The Broncos are the conference favorite but do not have the most favorable schedule.

But they do get a primetime game on the road here. Boise State feels they have a chance to run the table, but road games will be their biggest challenge. A season ago, the Broncos held opponents to just 18.5 points per game.

The offense is built to pound the ball on the ground, so getting ahead in the game is a big deal. Look for San Diego State to have a chance to come into this game 4-0, with back-to-back wins against Pac-12 teams.

UCLA and Oregon State stand in their way, and both are beatable. The Aztecs are another really good defensive team, making that the calling card of the 2023 team.

Wyoming Cowboys at Air Force Falcons

NCAAF Week 7
Saturday, October 14th, 2023, 7:00 pm | CBSSN
Falcon Stadium, USAF Academy, CO

Wyoming and Air Force will get together for an evening game on CBS Sports Network.

With all these teams in the Mountain West putting on their defensive shoes, Air Force is the best of them. The Falcons ranked third in defense a season ago, allowing 13.3 points per game.

On the offensive side, the Falcons are going to jam the ball down the opponent’s throat. Can the Cowboys stay in their way? This should be a fun affair between these two teams.

Colorado State Rams at Wyoming Cowboys

NCAAF Week 10
Friday, November 3rd, 2023, 8:00 pm | CBSSN
Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium, Laramie, WY

The Rams are going to have a hard time competing at the top of the conference, especially with their schedule. But this is a team that is going to be tough to play against.

The Rams struggled to pass the ball a season ago but look to be doing everything they can to improve upon that offense. Wyoming comes into the new season with the fifth-best odds to win the conference.

The Cowboys were another team that had a tough time scoring. Both teams know what they need to do to improve coming into the season, so look for those things to play out in this tilt.

Boise State Broncos at Fresno State Bulldogs

NCAAF Week 10
Saturday, November 4th, 2023, 10:00 pm | CBSSN
Bulldog Stadium (CA), Fresno, CA

Once again – the conference favorite Broncos got to go on the road to another team looking to compete for a title. The Bulldogs will get a couple of battle test games early in the season as they go on the road to both Purdue and Arizona State.

Those games will prepare them for a conference season they can certainly make a run at. Will Boise State be leading the conference when they go on the road for this one?

Fresno State Bulldogs at San Diego State Aztecs

NCAAF Week 13
Saturday, November 25th, 2023
Snapdragon Stadium, San Diego, CA

This finishes the conference season. Keep in mind this is a conference that does not have divisions.

So, the chances of these two teams playing for one of the final two spots in the conference championship game is pretty likely here. We cannot wait for this one, and we have thoughts that this could be the Mountain West Conference game of the year!

There you have it. Those are our favorite NCAAF: Mountain West Most Anticipated Conference Matches Winning Favorites. Enjoy the season

2021 Analysis College Football | Mountain West Conference Football 2021

San Jose State was one of the biggest surprises in college football last year and the Spartans won their first Mountain West Conference title by upsetting Boise State. College football oddsmakers give three schools the only realistic chances of winning the Mountain West this year. Here’s a breakdown of each with their odds.

Boise State Broncos (-130)

For the ninth-straight season, Boise State is predicted to top the Mountain Division in the Mountain West’s preseason poll. That marks every season the MW in 2011 that the Broncos were voted on by media to claim either the conference or the division crown. Since joining the MW, the Broncos have claimed four conference titles, tying them for the most in league history, despite being a member for just 10 of the conference’s 22 seasons.

Boise State’s Kekaula Kaniho, John Ojukwu, Khalil Shakir and Jake Stetz were named to the 2021 Preseason All-Mountain West Football Team.

With the exit of head coach Bryan Harsin to Auburn, former defensive coordinator Andy Avalos returns to Boise as head coach after two years at Oregon.  Avalos played for the Broncos from 2001-05 and later returned as a defensive assistant and took over as defensive coordinator in 2016 before leaving for Oregon. The hiring of Avalos continued Boise State’s trend of keeping the job running the program within the Broncos family. Boise State has hired either an assistant within the program or a former player to run the show dating back to Dirk Koetter taking over in 1998.

The Broncos return 16 starters from a team that went 5-2 in the abbreviated 2020 season. Boise State has two capable quarterbacks in Jack Sears and Hank Bachmeier. The Broncos return a deep and experienced group at the wide receiver position headed by star senior Khalil Shakir and senior CT Thomas. Last season, Shakir recorded 52 receptions for 719 yards and six touchdowns. He added 148 rushing yards and was one of only two players nationally with 700 yards receiving and 100 yards rushing last season. Oregon transfer Cyrus Habibi-Likio joins starter George Holani in the backfield.

Nevada Wolf Pack (+450)

Nevada finished the 2020 season with a 7-2 overall record and third-place finish in the Mountain West. The Wolf Pack concluded its season with a 38-27 victory over Tulane in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl.

Last season, a school-record 15 Wolf Pack players earned all-conference honors, highlighted by quarterback Carson Strong becoming the first player in Nevada history to be named the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year.

Strong, who is back, paced the Mountain West in passing yards (2,858), passing touchdowns (27), completion percentage (70.1), and ranked in the FBS top 10 in completions per game (27.7, second), passing yards per game (317.6, seventh), completion percentage (seventh), and touchdown passes (ninth), while coming in 11th in passing yards. Strong also finished the year with an interception rate of just 1.13, throwing just four picks over 355 attempts.

This season and for the first time in Norvell’s tenure and since joining the Mountain West, Nevada is the preseason favorite to top the West Division. Nevada placed four players on the 2021 preseason All-Mountain West team, led by earning preseason Offensive Player of the Year honors. Joining Strong on the All-Mountain West preseason first team were senior wide receiver Romeo Doubs, senior tight end Cole Turner and junior place kicker Brandon Talton.

San Jose State Spartans (+450)

Long a doormat in the Mountain West — the Spartans had six straight losing seasons, with just eight combined wins the previous three years before last fall — SJSU enters the 2021 season as one of the league favorites fresh off its first league title since winning the Big West in 1991. The Spartans finished the 2020 season with a 7-1 loss record, a berth in the Arizona Bowl and were ranked 24th nationally in the final Associated Press poll.

Other than a couple of its top receivers, SJSU is returning nearly every starter from its championship team thanks to the extended eligibility the NCAA granted in response to the coronavirus pandemic.  Coach Brent Brennan has worked wonders with the program.

Quarterback Nick Starkel leads the returning starters. Starkel earned second-team All-Mountain West honors and was named the Offensive Most Valuable Player of the Mountain West championship football game throwing for 453 yards and three touchdowns without an interception in a 34-20 victory over Boise State. He completed 64.2 percent of his passes overall for 2,174 yards and 17 touchdowns directing an efficient offense that averaged almost 29 points a game.

Defensively, Cade Hall has been named a preseason All-American candidate.   Hall is the first San Jose State football player to receive USA Today preseason All-America honors and is his latest recognition for a 2020 season in which he was credited with 10.0 quarterback sacks and 12.0 tackles for loss in the seven games he played.
