NCAAF 2022 National Championship Betting Update

While there are some games being played a little earlier, the official Week 1 for the college football season in now less than 2 weeks away. Every team now has their rosters set and are ready to go, but who will come out on top when all is said and done? Will we see the usual faces at the top of the National Rankings, or will we have a dark horse emerge this season? All sings would seem to point to it being more of what we have been used to in the playoff era, with the bookies seeming to agree. The current favorites are all teams with playoff and championship experience, so let’s take a look at the current top 4 along with their NCAAF National Championship odds.

Updated College Football Championship Odds

Alabama Crimson Tide (+250)

I can’t remember the last time that the early National Championship odds were released and someone other than Alabama was in as the favorite. When you make a habit of getting to the playoffs and winning titles, the reality is that you are going to catch the eye of the bookies. The Crimson Tide come into this season as the defending champions, and while they lost a lot of players to the NFL Draft, they will likely do what they always do, which is to reload with 5-star talent and go again. There is the feeling that this team could go unbeaten in the regular season, but that is always a tough ask in the SEC.

Clemson Tigers (+450)

In the college football playoff era, it has been Alabama and Clemson who have dominated proceedings. Like their rivals, Clemson will have some changes to make this season, most notably at the starting QB position. Replacing Trevor Lawrence, who will be playing his trade in the NFL this season, will be no easy feat, but like the Crimson Tide, Clemson are always able to reload and continue winning. That being said, their opening week game against the Georgia Bulldogs is one that could set the tone for the entire season.

Georgia Bulldogs (+500)

Since losing in the National Championship Game to Alabama a few years back, the Bulldogs have regressed a little. Last season, they failed to win the SEC East, although in fairness, they were down to their 4th string QB. The QB spot is settled for this season and the Dawgs look to be loaded from top to bottom. As mentioned already, the opening week game against Clemson will likely change the odds for one of these teams quite dramatically, but when it comes to the East Division, the Georgia Bulldogs look like a very good bet. If they can take that and win the Conference Championship Game, look out.

Oklahoma Sooners (+500)

The Oklahoma Sooners are always a fun team to watch, but their wide-open style of offensive football is often what gets them in trouble. They will almost certainly be a massive offensive threat again this season, but I am always wary about taking them to win the National Championship. The reason for that is because they always seem to find a way to lose a game they should win in the regular season, which in turn hurts their playoff chances. Perhaps this will be the season they prove me wrong.
