We are a month into the 2021 college football season, and it is shaping up to be one of the best seasons in recent memory, thanks to the parity within the rankings. Traditional powers seem vulnerable and the playoff picture appears more wide open than ever.
Let’s take a look at the updated National Championship odds over at MyBookie.ag after four weeks of action.
Updated National Championship Betting Odds
The Favorites
Alabama Crimson Tide +160 – The preseason favorites remain atop the board after surviving a narrow two-point victory in Gainesville two weeks ago. Alabama hasn’t looked as dominant as in years past, but that is to be expected when you lose so much talent to the NFL. This weekend, the Crimson Tide gets another test when Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss Rebels come to town.
Georgia Bulldogs +250 – Georgia has looked the best out of the top teams through the first month of play. Some of that could be the opponents, but head coach Kirby Smart appears to have found an offense to complement the stout defense. The Bulldogs get upstart Arkansas this weekend in what should be another fantastic SEC battle.
The Contenders
Ohio State Buckeyes +550 – Another team that hasn’t moved much since the preseason, the Buckeyes suffered a rare home loss to the Oregon Ducks earlier this year. OSU has questions on defense and their starting quarterback, C.J. Stroud, missed last week’s game due to injury. The Ohio State Buckeyes are still the team to beat in the Big Ten, and winning out will get them back into the CFP.
Oklahoma Sooners +650 – The Oklahoma Sooners nearly lost their season-opener to Tulane and had narrow victories the last two weeks over Nebraska and West Virginia over two weeks. Fans in Norman were calling for quarterback Spencer Rattler’s backup during the previous week’s contest. This is the first time in recent memory where the question marks surrounding the Sooners reside on the offensive side of the ball.
Teams to Watch
Penn State Nittany Lions +3300 – Already with a pair of top-25 victories this season, the Nittany Lions have won eight in a row dating back to last season. Penn State has a tough schedule remaining, but head coach James Franklin has his team playing at a high level and could be the Big Ten East favorites.
Michigan Wolverines +6600 – We stay in the Big Ten East with another undefeated team. The Wolverines haven’t faced the toughest schedule, but they’ve taken care of business in every game with an average margin of victory of 28.5 points. Football fans will find out this weekend if Michigan is for real with a road test inside Camp Randall against Wisconsin.
Florida Gators +10000 – Florida spotted Alabama 21 points in the first quarter and almost came back to take down the #1 ranked team, outplaying them over the final three quarters. The Gators control their own destiny in the East, and it’ll most likely all come down to their rivalry showdown against Georgia at the end of October. The improved play at quarterback and progression on defense gives Florida fans hope that this team is a playoff contender.
