2017 NBA Betting Odds: Portland At Golden State

Written by on January 3, 2017

Following up a record-breaking season is always tough, simply because the expectations are usually raised to levels that simply cannot be attained. That may not necessarily be true of the Golden State Warriors, though, as some of the pressure for this year was taken off them when they blew a 3-1 lead in the NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers last season. The fact that they broke the single season record for wins is almost an afterthought now, as all the attention on them is about whether they can get back to the Finals and dethrone Cleveland. The Warriors are putting together another great season, and while the 70-win mark looks improbable this year, they will settle for winning the Western Conference and making another run with home court advantage on their side. Wednesday night will see the Dubs welcome in the Portland Trail Blazers, a team that they have already beaten twice this season, and who they should be able to get past without breaking too much of a sweat.

In Depth Analysis On The 2017 NBA Betting Odds: Trail Blazers At Warriors

Why bet on the Portland Trail Blazers

The imbalance in the Western Conference can be seen by looking at this Portland Trail Blazers teams. They are 6-games under .500 as we near the halfway point of the season, yet they are just a half game out of the final playoff spot. If they were to somehow land in the #8 seed, they would likely have to go against the Warriors in the opening round, which is not particularly good news. They have already lost twice to Golden State this season, with the average margin of victory coming in at 23 points. The Trail Blazers are showing signs of coming out of an awful tailspin, and have won 2 of their last 3, getting those wins by playing much better on the defensive side of the ball.

Why bet on the Golden State Warriors

At 30-5, the Golden State Warriors are once again cruising towards the best record in the NBA. They have not had consecutive losses go against them this season, and are just the epitome of a team on cruise control. Not having to chase history by setting the single season record, as they did last year, appears to have made them a looser bunch, and the addition of Kevin Durant has them looking like an offensive juggernaut, averaging over 117 PPG. AS we mentioned earlier, the Warriors have won both meeting versus the Trail Blazers this season, and they have also won the last 5 meetings against them in Oakland. I see no way that they can possibly lose this one.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

It really would have to be a tremendously off night in Oakland for the Warriors not to come away with the win in this one. There are bigger games ahead, and I don’t see the Dubs doing any more than they need to in order to get the win here.
