If there is one thing that you can guarantee at the start of any season, it’s that every team in the league is going to need to deal with injuries at some point. There is a reason why the teams that win championships tend to be the ones that have a strong bench of players ready to step in when the inevitable injuries arise. That said, there are some teams that tend to lean a little too heavily on their star players and who struggle when their main man goes down. How a team reacts to that tells you a lot about their ability to handle adversity. As we have seen to this point in the season, some are doing better than others in that regard. Let’s take a look at both sides of the coin here so yo can continue betting against their NBA odds.
NBA Players Injuries – Which teams have been slacking without their star players?
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers faltered in the first season with LeBron James on the team, for a couple of different reasons. It quickly became clear that he needed a better surrounding cast, but the team also went in the tank when he suffered an injury late in that season. That offseason, the Lakers went out and landed Anthony Davis that helped take some of the pressure off of James, so much so that they went on to win the championship. They looked to be on pace to make another run this year, but an injury to Davis a few weeks before the All-Star Break sent them heading in the wrong direction. Davis is still out and now LeBron is injured and expected to be out a few weeks, too. The Lakers have slipped to 4th in the West and are struggling without their two main men.
Golden State Warriors
The Warriors went into a bit of a rebuild after dominating the NBA for a few seasons, but the expectation was that they might be on the way back this season. The belief was that Klay Thompson would be back in the fold after missing all of last season with a torn ACL. He had a setback with that injury, though, and is set to be out all of this season, too. Now the Warriors are also without Steph Curry and are sitting below the playoff line in the Western Conference. The length of Curry’s absence could well dictate whether the Warriors can get back above the line before the end of the regular season.
There are a couple of teams that have managed to keep winning while not having all of their best players available. The LA Clippers managed to grind out wins while dealing with injuries to the likes of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard and are now moving up the standings as they get healthy. It has been much the same story in Brooklyn, with the Nets looking very much like a playoff contender despite seeing Kevin Durant miss a lot of playing time. It certainly helps that they also have James Harden and Kyrie Irving to hold down the fort.
