Philadelphia vs Brooklyn NBA Betting Preview

Only 1 team can have the unfortunate luck of being called the worst team in basketball when the season draws to a close. Right now, the smart money would be on the Philadelphia 76ers, but there are a few team that might still be in the hunt for that “worst team” label. The Brooklyn Nets may be one of them, and they will look to get a little more separation when they host the 76ers on Thursday night.

Betting on the 76ers

One look at the 1-21 record currently held by the 76ers lets you know that they are not a team who are going to pose much of a threat on any given night. It certainly doesn’t help when you have the worst offense in the league, with a PPG average that is just a touch over 90 points. Add to that the fact that the defense is giving up 103.8 PPG and it becomes pretty easy to see why this team I performing so horribly. As if all of that weren’t bad enough, they now have to deal with off-court issues that saw Jahlil Okafor suspended for a couple of games. Perhaps the lowest point of the season may well have come on Monday night, though, when the San Antonio Spurs dropped a 119-68 hammering on the 76ers. Things really don’t get much better than that, and it has to be said that this is a team that already looks to have given up on the season. If that is the case, we can expect those big margins of victory to become all the more common.

Betting on the Nets

The Brooklyn Nets (6-15) stumbled out of the gate pretty badly, but you at least have to give them some credit for at least trying to salvage something from their season. They have looked better of late, and have won 3 of their last 5 games. One of those losses came against the Golden State Warriors, which makes their recent record look better still. The Nets are in the same sort of vicinity as the 76ers when it comes to points allowed per game, but they are about 6 PPG better than Philly on the offensive side of the court. About the only edge they don’t hold over Philadelphia at the moment is on their bench, which is a little on the weak side this season. Brook Lopez seems to be rounding into some form, and the Nets will be looking for him to be the difference maker more often than not.

What Should You Consider Before Placing Your Bets?

The Nets have taken 3 of 4 from the 76ers in each of the past 2 seasons, and they will want to start that trend back up by winning the first meeting of the season. I think they will do that with a win in the 5-7point range. Keep an eye on the UNDER here, too, as that has gone 5-0-1 in their last 6 meetings.
