Why Bet On Houston?
This will be the Rockets debut of former Clippers All-Star guard Chris Paul, who should team with James Harden to form the best backcourt in the NBA. Houston sent Sam Dekker, Patrick Beverley, Lou Williams, DeAndre Liggins, Darrun Hilliard, Montrezl Harrell, Kyle Wiltjer, a top-three-protected 2018 first-round pick and $661,000 to the Clippers in exchange for Paul. The 32-year-old Paul will be playing for his third team after opting in for the last year of his contract so the Clippers could work on a deal. Paul is a nine-time All-Star who has averaged 18.7 points, 9.9 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 2.3 steals over his 12-year career, though he has been dogged with criticism in recent years for failing to help the Clippers get out of the second round of the playoffs. Los Angeles reached the postseason in each of Paul’s six seasons with the team, but the Clippers were eliminated in the first round three times and in the Western Conference semifinals three other times. The biggest loss for Houston would be Beverley, who received NBA defensive first team honors last season but averaged just 9.3 points in his five seasons with the Rockets. Beverley was the only Houston starter involved in the deal, with Williams and Dekker playing reserve roles last season. How Was The Preseason for Houston?
The Rockets finished the preseason 4-1, tying for the third-best winning percentage in the league. Houston scored 115+ points twice this preseason and averaged 112.6 ppg. The Rockets were 43-5 when scoring 110+ points last season and 12-22 when failing to do so. Houston averaged 115.3 ppg in 2016-17, tying for the second-highest scoring average in franchise history. The Rockets did not allow more than 106 points this preseason with opponents averaging 93.8 ppg. Last season, Houston was 34-5 when holding opponents below 110 points, including 18-0 below 100 (21-22 when opponents scored 110+ points). The Rockets held the opposition below 90 points twice this preseason. Houston only held its opponent below 90 points once in 2016-17.Team Statistics
