If you take a look at the standings in the NBA right now, you will see that there are not too many surprises to be found at the top of the conferences. The teams that we expected to be challenging for the NBA crown are there, but there are a few dark horse teams simmering just below the surface. With that in mind, it is perhaps not real surprise that most of the news out of the NBA right now is about potential trade rumors. The James Harden trade was huge, but it will almost certainly not be the last big one we see before the trade deadline. Let’s check out the latest news out there so you can continue betting against our NBA odds.
2021 NBA Betting News & Rumors January 28th Edition
Before we get into the trade rumor talk, there is some news on the horizon concerning the All-Star Game. The NBA is yet to make a decision on whether or not we will se an All-Star Game this season, but word is that they will be setting the wheels in motion by opening up voting this week. The voting will remain open until February 16, with the starters set to be announced on TV a couple of days later on the 18th. It’s impossible to say whether the league opening the voting is a sign that they plan on playing the All-Star Game, as the whole pandemic situation is one that seems to change daily.
We still have a couple of months to go before the trade deadline, but there are certainly plenty of rumors swirling right now. One of those rumors is about Derrick Rose, as it appears as though there are a couple of teams interested in his services. Rose has mostly been coming off the bench for the Pistons and may be surplus to requirements once Killian Hayes returns from injury, which is expected to be around trade deadline. Rumor is that the Clippers and Knicks are among the interested parties.
One team that will almost certainly be active on the trade front is the New Orleans Pelicans. They are off to a poor start this season and most of the chatter has been about potentially moving J.J. Reddick and Lonzo Ball. They have allegedly already been receiving calls from other teams looking to make a deal. The rumor is that there are talks with the Golden State Warriors, with Kelly Oubre Jr. mentioned in that potential trade. It would certainly be a surprise to see both Reddick and Ball still with the Pelicans after the deadline.
One the good news front, the Dallas Mavericks are getting a boost with the return of a trio of players missing due to COVID protocols. Josh Richardson, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Dwight Powell are back and will be worked back into the lineup as soon as possible. It’s great news for the Mavericks, especially on the defensive side of the court, although they will still be without Maxi Kleber for a little while longer.
