Spurs vs. Trail Blazers NBA Betting Preview and Analysis

Thanks to their emphatic 106-88 win over the Sacramento Kings on Monday, the Spurs (5-2) are now riding on a two-game winning streak, so a win over the Blazers would be their third in a row. Kawhi Leonard once again proved to be the star of the show, leading San Antonio with 24 points. The hope is that Leonard will be on his best as the Spurs look to maintain momentum in the Western Conference, where they are tied currently tied for second spot. As you’d expect, though, Aldridge will be the player to watch, as he makes his much-anticipated return to Portland, a place where he served diligently for many years before making his offseason switch to San Antonio. On the season, the former Portland big man is still trying to find his groove, averaging just 15.1 points on a career-low 45.7 percent shooting in his first seven games with Spurs. Aldridge and his new teammates will, however, fancy their chances of shining offensively, given that the Blazers have been very porous defensively in recent outings, giving up a whopping 228 points in their last two games against Detroit and Denver, both which have ended in losses. The fact that San Antonio has continued with its hard-nosed defensive style this season, allowing just 91.7 points per game, doesn’t orient any more hope for the Trail Blazers. Even so, the Trail Blazers (4-4) haven’t been all that bad this season. For starters, Damian Lillard (who is impressively averaging 27.5 points and 7.3 assists per game this season) has been on a tear lately, averaging 30.4 points in his last five games. In 11 career games against the Spurs, Lillard has also been playing spectacularly, putting up 26.5 points per game. The Trail Blazers can therefore count on him to light it up once again today. In addition, the Trail Blazers rank impressively at No. 2 in the league in long-range shooting with 10.38 per game, which could allow them to take advantage of the Spurs, who are more of close-range shooters and rank poorly at No. 25 in long-range shooting with 6.43 per outing.

Spurs at Trail Blazers Predictions

The Spurs will most likely use their mean defense and dominance on the boards to neutralize Portland’s attacks, thus allowing San Antonio to win the game. However, the Blazers should be able to use their solid long-range shooting skills to keep the game close to cover the spread, while combining for enough points to take the total OVER.
