The Portland Trail Blazers are battling to stay out of the Western Conference play-in tournament, while the Utah Jazz are trying to finish as the conference’s top seed. The teams close their regular-season series on Wednesday night from Salt Lake City with the NBA odds dependent on Utah’s Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley and whether they return from injury.

Season Series Utah leads 2-0. The teams last played on April 8 and the Jazz prevailed 122-103 in Salt Lake City. Donovan Mitchell led Utah with points, adding five rebounds, four assists and one steal. Rudy Gobert had 18 points and 20 rebounds. Damian Lillard led Portland with 23 points, while CJ McCollum had. Lillard attended Weber State in Ogden, tah. The Jazz are 106-88 all-time vs. Portland and -23 at home. Dating to last season, they are on a three-game winning streak in the series. Why Bet on Portland? The Blazers probably will finish fifth or sixth in the Western Conference, meaning they would avoid the play-in tournament. They won a fourth straight Monday, 140-129 at home over terrible Houston. The Blazers scored 50 points in the first quarter, setting a franchise record for scoring in a period, and tied an NBA record for 3-pointers made in a quarter with 12. CJ McCollum had 21 points in the first as Portland built a 17-point lead. Damian Lillard finished with 34 points, nine rebounds and six assists. His past five games have been nothing short of spectacular, as he’s averaged 33.4 points, 7.6 assists, 4.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals over that span. McCollum finished with 28 points after that crazy first quarter. Jusuf Nurkic hit 10-of-14 shots for 22 points, six rebounds, five assists, three steals and a block. Nurkic has quietly scored in double figures in four straight games with double-doubles in two of them and the Blazers have won all four of those games. Norman Powell had 28 points, six rebounds and four assists. Portland appears to have committed highway robbery in getting Powell from the Raptors in a trade at the deadline. And after not appearing in the last two games, Derrick Jones Jr. put up 11 points, three rebounds and three assists with both Carmelo Anthony (right ankle) and Nassir Little (back spasms) sidelined. Both Anthony and Little are questionable for this one.

The Jazz were upset 119-116 at Golden State on Monday to end a five-game winning streak. Dubs star Steph Curry made a go-ahead 3-pointer with 14 seconds left and had 36 points. The Jazz are still without injured All-Star guards Donovan Mitchell and Mike Conley and it’s not thought either will play here.

Jordan Clarkson hit 16-of-33 shots and 5-of-16 3-pointers for a season-high 41 points in the loss. Clarkson is the front-runner for Sixth Man of the Year and just missed his career high by a point. He hit a huge late 3-pointer, giving the Jazz a brief lead after they trailed by as many as 18 points.

The 28-year-old has now scored 20-plus points in four straight games, a span in which he’s averaging 28.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 3.8 three-pointers and 0.8 steals while shooting 48.3 percent from the field. Clarkson is averaging career highs in points (18.0), rebounds (4.1) and three-pointers (3.0) through 65 games this season.

Rudy Gobert finished the night with 10 points and 16 boards. Bojan Bogdanovic had 27 points and six rebounds in the loss. After a seven-point struggle April 26 Bogdanovic has been on fire, scoring 24, 22, 34, 25, 24, 48, 20 and 27 points in each of his last eight games.

Bogdanovic pointed to the Jazz’s turnovers, 15 of them leading to 26 points for Golden State, as the biggest issue.

“When you turn the ball over, it’s tough to play defense, especially against this kind of team and you have Steph Curry shooting from everywhere, basically,” he said. “That was probably the reason why we lost the game. It’s not about our offense.”

The Jazz are currently knocking down 16.9 three per contest, which is a league best and on pace to set an NBA record for most threes per contest in a single season, while only giving up 10.9 threes per game.
