The Charlotte Hornets have been one of the worst road teams in the NBA this season, but they have a shot to win back-to-back away games for the first time when they visit the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday night. The Clippers are solid NBA Betting favorites.

Season Series

The first meeting between the teams. The split last year. The Clippers were 106-98 home winners. Charlotte was outscored 33-14 in the third quarter. The Hornets bounced back in the fourth quarter to make the game close until the final minutes, but Lou Williams would score 15 of his game-high 40 points to seal the victory for the Clippers. Kemba Walker led the way for the Hornets, combining for 30 points, two assists, and two steals. Frank Kaminsky chipped in 16 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

The Clippers are 9-18 all-time at the Clippers.

Clippers guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was drafted by the Hornets with the 11th overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft and traded to the L.A. Clippers for the draft rights to 12th overall pick F Miles Bridges.

Why Bet on Charlotte?

The Hornets are off a 119-113 win in Phoenix on Sunday. Willy Hernangomez combined for 19 points, nine rebounds, and two assists while shooting 67% from the floor. It was Hernangomez’s second game of at least 15 points and five rebounds this season after only recording one a season ago. In the three games since starting-center Cody Zeller’s injury, Hernangomez has filled in averaging 11.7 points per game, 8.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 19.1 minutes per game while shooting 52% from the floor.

Kemba Walker scored 29 points along with seven rebounds, 18 of Walker’s 29 points came in the fourth quarter. Walker is averaging 8.6 points in the fourth quarter this season, the highest fourth-quarter average in the NBA.

Tony Parker hit 9-of-16 shots for 20 points and six assists in 27 minutes of Sunday’s win over the Suns. He had scored a grand total of just five points in his previous three games, but was helped by the fact that Walker struggled for the first three quarters on Sunday. It marked Parker’s fourth 20-point of the season in 35 appearances. In 2017-18 Parker had one 20-point game in 55 appearances for the Spurs. Only Walker and Jeremy Lamb have more 20+ point games for Charlotte this season.

Lamb (right hamstring strain) is questionable for Tuesday’s game. Lamb has missed three games in a row, but he drew a questionable tag for the second time in a row and should return any day now. Devonte’ Graham has jumped Malik Monk recently and has benefitted the most in Lamb’s absence with 9.3 points, 4.3 assists and 1.3 triples over his last three outings.

The Hornets’ reserves combined for 52 points, 17 rebounds, 11 assists and three steals in the win at Phoenix. Charlotte’s second unit is currently averaging 44.6 points per game, the third-highest points per game bench average in the league.

Why Bet on LA Clippers?

The Clippers won their second straight Sunday, 106-96 over Orlando. Tobias Harris led the Clippers with 28 points, making 10-of-21 field goals and 7-of-8 free throws in 36 minutes. He added nine rebounds, two assists, one steal, one block and one 3-pointer.

Marcin Gortat had another strong game on Sunday with eight points, 10 rebounds, one block and a season-high six assists in 25 minutes. Gortat was coming off an 18 & 13 double-double, and has now played 22+ minutes in three straight games for the first time all season. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander made 6-of-7 shots with a 3-pointer to score 13 points, adding two rebounds, two assists and one steal. The rookie played 23 minutes and only had one turnover.

Hornets vs Clippers should be an easy victory for LA.

The Clippers won despite a quiet game from Danilo Gallinari, who shot 5-of-16 to score 13 points with five rebounds and two assists. He’s still averaging 20.5 points, 2.1 threes, 6.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 0.9 steals over the past five. Gallinari ranks 2nd in the NBA, shooting 91.9% from the free-throw line and 10th, shooting 44.3% from three-point range. He’s averaging career-highs in points (19.5), rebounds (6.2), FG% (45.4%) and 3PT% (44.3%).

Clippers reserves lead the NBA with 52.2 points/game this season, on pace for the highest scoring average by a reserve unit in over 30 seasons. Lou Williams and Montrezl Harrell rank 1st & 4th in the NBA in bench scoring, respectively, and are the only set of teammates averaging 15+ points off the bench this season.
