In sports, it’s always a good idea to be the eternal optimist. It’s why you will see players talking about winning the next game to get on a positive run of form even when the standings show that their chances of doing so are pretty much slim to none. We are at the stage of the season where teams are going to start clinching playoff spots, while others see their postseason hopes come to an end. Optimism will remain high until the match dictates that the season is eventually over for those teams below the playoff line, but the reality is that we already know which teams are not going to be playing beyond the end of the regular season. The Charlotte Hornets would very much appear to be one of those teams, as they are currently sitting well adrift of the playoff line in the Eastern Conference. It’s tough to imagine things getting much better for them on Wednesday night when they hit the road to face the Miami Heat, a team that has been great at home this season. The Heat are in as a 10-point favorite, with the point total for this one set at 211 ½. Let’s see how the NBA odds will be for the Hornets vs Heat.

Why bet on the Charlotte Hornets
The Charlotte Hornets still have an outside shot at getting into the postseason, but it’s not a bet that I would take on at this point. They are currently sitting at 22-42 on the year, which has them sitting 7 games back of the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. You might feel a little bit better about their chances if they were showing signs of life, but they are coming into this one on the heels of another loss, with that one taking them to 4-6 in their last 10 games. They were rather soundly beaten 117-110 when they visited Miami earlier in the season, plus they are just 12-21 overall on the road. The Hornets are 6-0-1 ATS in their last 7, but they are also just 2-8-1 ATS in their last 11 meetings with Miami.

Why bet on the Miami Heat
The Miami Heat are basically just a win or two away from officially booking their place in the postseason, and you would certainly like their chances to get one of those wins here. Even without digging too deeply into the trends, you have to favor the Heat based solely on their home record, where they are a spectacular 27-4. They have also made rather easy work of teams sitting below the .500 mark, going 27-13 SU versus those opponents. After a bit of a wobbly run where the Heat went 6-4 in their last 10, they have settled into a bit of a groove, going 4-1 SU in their last 5. The Heat have not been a great cover bet, going 5-10 ATS in their last 15 and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 Wednesday night games.

Hornets vs Heat Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction
I think it’s more than fair to suggest that the Heat are a rather obvious SU pick here, but can they also cover the spread? I think they can on home court, so I will be riding them all the way.
