There is perhaps no more precarious place to be in the NBA standings than the #8 seed in the conference. While being in that spot means a playoff spot, it also means that dropping any lower take you out, while staying there means facing the best team in the conference in the opening round of the playoffs. That is not much of a reward for any team, but we also know that strange things can happen once the postseason gets underway. If you look at the standings right now, the top 8 in the Eastern Conference appear to be set in stone, although we still don’t really know how the final standings will look. Things are not quite so clear over the in the Western Conference, where the Memphis Grizzlies are currently sitting in the #8 spot. They have a decent lead over the chasing pack, but not one that can be considered comfortable. The two #8 seeds will go head to head on Tuesday night, with the Orlando Magic heading to Memphis to take on the Grizzlies. Why bet on the Orlando Magic
The reality for the Orlando Magic is that they are almost certainly going to be heading into the playoffs as a #7 or #8 seed, which will mean an opening round series against the Toronto Raptors or the Milwaukee Bucks, neither of which would be particularly appetizing for the Magic. They are 5 ½ games clear of the pack below the playoff line and just a ½ game back of the #7 spot at this time. Orlando has actually been playing some decent ball of late, winning back to back games and going 6-4 in their last 10. The grizzlies are sitting in the #8 spot in the Western Conference, and while they have a 4-game lead over the chasing pack, things are not yet as comfortable as they would like. They are coming into this one on the heels of a win, but that took them to just 4-6 in their last 10 games. The Grizzlies are playing .500 ball this season at 32-32, but they have been better at home, going 18-14 SU in their own building. While they have a losing record in their last 10, they have managed to go 4-1 SU and ATS in their last 5, so there are signs that they are hitting a better run of form. They have been a very solid bet in games against teams from the Eastern Conference, going 7-1 ATS in the last 8 against those teams.
