The Dallas Mavericks will again be without superstar Luka Doncic on Friday night and might be without Kristaps Porzingis as well when they make their only visit of the season to a bad Washington Wizards team. Whether Porzingis plays will affect the NBA betting lines.

Season Series
Mavs lead 1-0 as the teams opened the season against one another and Dallas prevailed 108-100 at home on Oct. 23. Luka Doncic had 34 points and nine rebounds, and Kristaps Porzingis finished off his 23 points with the game-sealing dunk in the final minute. The Wizards had cut a 23-point deficit going into the fourth quarter to seven when Doncic and Washington star Bradley Beal were called for double technicals with 1:09 remaining. Beal was ejected when he was almost immediately whistled for a second technical. Beal scored 19 points. Thomas Bryant had 14 points and 11 rebounds. Dallas leads the all-time series 44-32.
Why Bet on Dallas?
Once again without superstar Luka Doncic due to an ankle injury – he won’t be back for a while – the Mavs lost 121-107 at home to Memphis on Wednesday. Doncic leads the NBA in triple-doubles this season with 12. He is now just one triple-double shy of tying Kidd’s franchise record for career triple-doubles (21).
Ja Morant had 21 points for the Grizzlies in the win. Dillon Brooks had 18 points for Memphis, which took advantage of Doncic’s absence for Dallas despite playing without forwards Jae Crowder and Solomon Hill. They left the team before the game due to pending trades that also included Andre Iguodala to Miami.
Kristaps Porzingis had 32 points and 12 rebounds for the Mavericks in his third straight 30-point game. Porzingis left briefly with 4:06 remaining in the third quarter with a bloody nose after being elbowed by Josh Jackson while going for a rebound.
On the bright side, Porzingis scored 24 points in the first half, his highest total for any half all season. He’s also notched 30+ points and 10+ rebounds in three straight games, a streak only equaled this season by teammate Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kawhi Leonard. On the negative side, Porzingis did break the nose and is questionable for this one. The expectation is that KP will play through it. He’ll likely wear a mask.
Jalen Brunson finished Wednesday’s loss with 20 points in 33 minutes. The Mavs’ backcourt was short-handed without J.J. Barea (sprained left ankle) and Seth Curry (left knee tightness).

Why Bet on Washington?
The Wiz had a two-game winning streak snapped Monday in a 125-117 home loss to Golden State. It was the second straight win for the NBA-worst Warriors, with both coming on the road. They lost 15 of their previous 17. The Warriors led by as many as 19 points midway in the third quarter, but the Wizards cut it to 115-110 with 3:39 remaining. Golden State shot 50% (15 for 30) from 3-point range and had six players score in double figures.

Coach Scott Brooks said that center Thomas Bryant experienced a setback with the stress reaction in his right foot will miss at least the next couple of games. Bryant was finally ramping up his minutes after a lengthy absence.
On Thursday, the Wizards traded Jordan McRae, who had missed the past four games with an ankle injury, to Denver for Shabazz Napier. Napier had been traded to the Nuggets from Minnesota earlier this week. He’ll get some run as a backup point guard in D.C. because the Wiz dealt another backup point guard in Isaiah Thomas to the Clippers. Washington got former first-round bust Jerome Robinson from L.A.
As for this game, Washington has scored 110+ points 18 times in series history (out of 76 total games) vs. the Mavs. Dallas has scored 110+ points in the series 24 times.
