Nets vs Lakers 2020 NBA Game Preview & Betting Odds

Written by on March 10, 2020

The Brooklyn Nets are 1-0 since shockingly firing Coach Kenny Atkinson on Saturday, but the Nets are double-digit underdogs on the Mybookie NBA odds for their lone visit of the season to the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night. Let’s see how the NBA odds will be for the Nets vs Lakers.

Nets vs Lakers 2020 NBA Game Preview & Betting Odds

Nets vs Lakers Season Series

Lakers lead 1-0, taking a 128-113 decision on Jan. 23. LeBron James had 27 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. The Lakers hit 19 three-pointers. A back-and-forth game for nearly three quarters turned into a rout after the Lakers broke the Nets’ spirits with four straight 3-pointers spanning the third and fourth quarters, extending a one-point lead to 107-94. Anthony Davis had 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Dwight Howard finished with 14 points and 12 boards. Kyrie Irving had 20 points but is now out for the season. Brooklyn made a season-high-tying 21 threes (on 46 3FGA) and posted 30 assists on 40 field goals made.

Why Bet on Brooklyn?

The Nets canned Coach Kenny Atkinson on Saturday even though they would be a playoff team as things stand. One of Atkinson’s assistants, former Orlando Magic coach Jacque Vaughn, will finish out the season as the head coach but probably won’t get the full-time job.

The Nets won in Vaughn’s debut Sunday, 110-107 over Chicago. The Nets committed a season-high 29 turnovers and forced just six but had a 19-rebound advantage (50-31) in the victory. Spencer Dinwiddie scored 24 points with three rebounds and six assists. He was 14-for-15 from the free-throw line. Caris LeVert scored 23 points with six rebounds and five assists. He averaged 28.8 points, 6.5 assists and 6 .3 rebounds in four games last week.

Vaughn started DeAndre Jordan and center and had Jarrett Allen come off the bench. Jordan had 11 points, 15 boards, four assists and three blocks in 29 minutes against the Bulls. Allen had 11 points, six rebounds, one assist and one block in 19 minutes.

Guard Garrett Temple (left ankle) has been ruled out for Tuesday’s game against the Lakers. It’ll be his fourth straight game on the sidelines, which will continue to lead to more minutes for Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrott and Chris Choizza.

The Nets have shot .500 or better from the field in each of their last two games, marking the third time this season Brooklyn has shot .500 or better in consecutive games. The last time the Nets did so in three straight came last season.

Why Bet on LA Lakers?

The Lakers were the NBA’s most impressive team over the weekend, first beating the Milwaukee Bucks on Friday and then the Clippers on Sunday, 112-103. The Lakers had been 0-2 vs. the Clippers this season.

LeBron James scored 28 points with seven rebounds, nine assists and two blocks Sunday. The Lakers dominated in the third quarter with a 36-28 edge. James was a distant second in the MVP race, but LeBron’s strong weekend combined with Giannis Antetokounmpo (knee) getting hurt could make it an interesting race.  Anthony Davis scored 30 points with eight rebounds Sunday.

Avery Bradley scored a season-high 24 points vs. the Clippers. He was big time and LeBron James even mentioned Bradley in his post-game presser thanks to his third. In his 11 third-quarter minutes, Bradley scored 12 points on his four 3-pointers to help the Lakers pull away.

The Lakers have added former Heat guard Dion Waiters, but he won’t immediately join the rotation. “[Markieff Morris had] been playing games for the Pistons; Dion’s played three games this year,” coach Frank Vogel said. “So it’s a matter of acclimating, getting used to our system, getting a few practices under his belt.”

The Lakers and Nets have met 90 times, with Los Angeles leading the all-time series 65-25. At Staples Center, the Lakers are 13-7 all-time against the Nets. The Lakers have won 14 of the last 20 matchups with the Nets overall. L.A. is 8-7 against the Nets since the franchise moved to Brooklyn. Since the Nets entered the league prior to the 1976-77 season, the Lakers have lost just six total season series to Brooklyn, including last season.
