NBA News & Rumors: Blake Griffin Signs With the Nets

Written by on March 9, 2021

It was a bit of a quiet week in the NBA, with all of the focus on putting together a successful All-Star Game in Atlanta. It certainly looked and felt different than what we are used to, but I think it turned out well, all things considered. The league will get back to business this week, but even as players enjoy their final day or two away from the court, GMs across the NBA are looking at the trade deadline and thinking about moves that might potentially prepare their teams for the final run to the playoffs. There is some news to report on that front, so let’s get right to it and then you can continue making your bets against their NBA odds.

2021 NBA Betting News & Rumors March 9th Edition

One move that has already been made sees Blake Griffin move on from Detroit, as he will now be part of the Brooklyn Nets. Griffin is no longer playing anywhere near the level that he was when he first exploded onto the scene, but this is still a small investment for the Nets, who will pay Griffin the veteran league minimum for the remainder of the season. Griffin could prove to be an invaluable addition to the bench as the Nets look to make a championship run, plus he is sure to be delighted at getting a shot to win a ring.

The Victor Oladipo situation in Houston appears to be drawing ever closer to a conclusion. Oladipo has not spent a lot of time in Houston, moving to the Rockets in January as part of the trade that saw James Harden head to the Brooklyn Nets. He seems uninterested in spending a lot of time in Houston and with unrestricted free agency looking, the Rockets don’t seem too willing to take on what will be a big financial hit. The most recent rumors have the Golden State Warriors interested in picking up Oladipo, so that will be one to watch in the coming days.

One player that will not be on the move during this trading period is Thaddeus Young of the Chicago Bulls. At least, that is what the Bulls are saying publicly. There is a lot of interest in Young, who is having himself a very nice year in Chicago. While the Bulls are saying that Young is not available for trade, you do have to wonder if they are playing hard to get at this point. Are they really intent on keeping Young in Chicago or is this all just a ploy to increase their leverage in any potential deal? Only time will tell.

During the All-Star Weekend, Nikola Vucevic put in a good showing in the skills contesting, coming in second. He was a player that was already in demand prior to the weekend, but that showing will not have hurt his chances of moving on when the trade deadline hits. There are several teams who look to be in the running to land him, with the Heat, Spurs, and Hornets all rumored to be interested in acquiring his services.
