With the playoffs in full swing, there is a lot happening in the NBA right now. Even though the playoffs are taking center stage, there are still lots of other things going on in and around the game. Let’s take a look at some of the items that are making news in the NBA right now so you can continue betting against their NBA odds.
2021 NBA Betting News & Rumors June 21st Edition
This year’s playoffs have been marred by superstars missing time due to injuries. Anthony Davis, Kawhi Leonard, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving all missed significant time during the playoffs. In a series of tweets last week, LeBron James blamed the quick turnaround from last season and how the NBA schedule was condensed this season on the number of player injuries.
Turmoil in Dallas
There has been a lot of turmoil surrounding the Dallas Mavericks lately. After the Mavs relieved long-time general manager Donnie Nelson of his duties, head coach Rick Carlisle decided to leave the organization. Owner Mark Cuban has been criticized for the way he has handled the situation, and Luka Doncic was upset by some of the recent moves. We’ll see how this all works out for the Mavericks.
Now that Carlise has left the Mavericks, there are seven head coaching vacancies in the league. Steve Clifford was let go by the Orlando Magic, and Stan Van Gundy will not be coaching the Pelicans next season. Scott Brooks, Terry Stotts, and Nate Bjorkren were also let go by their respective teams. Brad Stevens was promoted by the Celtics and will not be on the bench next season.
Some names that have been brought up for these vacancies are Jeff Van Gundy, Becky Hammon, Chauncey Billups, Sam Cassell, Willie Green, Mike Brown, Dave Joerger, and Jason Kidd. Rick Carlisle could also very well have a new home sooner rather than later.
The Zion situation
It has been reported that Zion Williamson is unhappy in New Orleans and won’t stick around when his contract expires. Williamson is frustrated with the direction the team is going and wants the team to make moves to get them into the playoffs. If Williamson doesn’t see some improvement, he could go the route of Anthony Davis and demand a trade out of New Orleans. We’ll see how this situation continues to develop.
The aftermath in Brooklyn
This will be an interesting offseason for the Brooklyn Nets. With Kevin Durant, James Harden, Kyrie Irving, and Joe Harris under contract for next season, the core group will remain intact. However, Blake Griffin, Bruce Brown, and Spencer Dinwiddie will all be free agents. After Griffin played well for Brooklyn, he’ll be demanding a large contract. Dinwiddie will have a lot of suitors, and lots of teams will be interested in Brown.
Brooklyn has a lot of money wrapped up in their core group, but it was evident that a lack of depth hurt them in the playoffs. We’ll see how the Nets handle things this offseason.
We’ll be hearing a lot of draft talk in the next few weeks. The NBA Draft Lottery will be held on Tuesday, June 22nd. Once the draft positions are solidified, we’ll be hearing a lot of speculation on who will be drafted where. The rumor mill will be going strong during the next few weeks.
