Pistons at Lakers NBA Betting Lines & Game Analysis

Written by on January 9, 2019

For years, the biggest basketball star in Los Angeles was Blake Griffin. He makes his return to the City of Angels on Wednesday night with the Detroit Pistons – albeit not against Griffin’s former team the Clippers but instead the Lakers, who will again be without LeBron James. Needless to say, that has affected the NBA Betting line.

How to Bet Pistons at Lakers NBA Betting Lines & Game Info

Season Series

First meeting. Detroit went 1-1 against Los Angeles in 2017-18. The Pistons are 4-2 against the Lakers since 2015-16. The Lakers won the six matchups prior to then. Detroit has won the last three home games in the series but is just 1-7 on the road since 2010-11.

This will be the 216th meeting between the Lakers and Pistons in the Los Angeles era (141-74) and the 338th game overall (205-132) between the two teams dating back to their first meeting in December 1948. At Staples Center, the Lakers are 14-4 all-time against the Pistons. Lakers G Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was drafted by the Pistons with the 8th overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft and played for the team from 2013-17.

Why Bet on Detroit?

The Pistons were 119-107 home losers to the Spurs on Monday. The Spurs took their biggest lead of the game (113-95) with a couple minutes remaining in the game as Detroit was never able to erase the deficit even behind 11-of-19 (.579) shooting in the fourth.

Blake Griffin led all scorers in Monday’s loss to the Spurs, racking up 34 points (13-of-21 FGs, 6-of-6 FTs) with eight assists, two rebounds, and two 3-pointers in 27 minutes. Having scored at least 26 points in four consecutive games, he’s averaging 27.6 points per and shooting 52.6% from the field and 38.7% from three over his last five appearances. This is Griffin’s first game back in Los Angeles since the Clippers traded him to Detroit last season.

Andre Drummond tallied his 32nd double-double of the season Monday, finishing with 19 points (9-of-14 FGs, 1-of-3 FTs), 14 rebounds four steals, two assists, one blocked shot and five turnovers on 37 minutes. Drummond extended his current streak of double-doubles to three, and he did so while shooting 9-of-14 from the field.

The Pistons have only allowed four opponents to shoot .400 or better from 3-point range this season. The Pistons rank first in the NBA in opponent 3-point percentage (.318) and 14th in the league in opponent scoring (109.7 ppg).

In addition to backup center Zaza Pachulia, the Pistons are also without backup point guard Ish Smith (right adductor tear).

Why Bet on LA Lakers?

The Lakers played again without LeBron on Monday but got a rare win, 107-97 in Dallas. Dallas led 67-54 at halftime but had its worst-scoring half of the season with just 30 points after the break — fewer than it scored in either of the first two quarters. The Mavs were 11-of-43 from the field in the second half and had 11 turnovers. The Lakers won for just the second time in seven games since James strained his groin on Christmas Day, and they swept the season series from the Mavericks 3-0.

Brandon Ingram bounced back from his subpar effort Sunday, scoring 29 points (12-of-21 FGs, 5-of-7 FTs) with six assists, three rebounds, and two steals in 37 minutes vs. Dallas. Ingram and Lonzo Ball were called out by Luke Walton following Sunday’s blowout loss to the Timberwolves, and both responded well. In scoring the season-high 29 points, the third-year wing shot better than 50% from the field for the first time in four games.

Pistons at Lakers should be a close one.

Ball shot 8-of-15 from the field Monday, finishing with 21 points (1-of-4 FTs), seven rebounds, five assists, two steals, and four 3-pointers. Ball reached the 20-point mark for the first time in seven games. In doing so Ball made four three-pointers, and while he’s struggled some with his overall field goal shooting (and foul shooting) he’s made half of his three-pointers this month (9-of-18).

Josh Hart played a game-high 44 minutes vs. the Mavericks, finishing with 14 points (5-of-13 FGs, 3-of-3 FTs), 12 rebounds, six assists, five steals, and one three-pointer. While Hart has struggled with his shot recently, making just 34.8% of his field goal attempts over the last five games, he’s managed to produce in other areas. During this stretch, Hart is averaging 13.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.0 steals per game.

Kyle Kuzma (back) was back in the lineup Monday, finishing with 13 points (4-of-20 FGs, 3-of-5 FTs), five rebounds, three assists, and two 3-pointers. Kuzma was not on a minutes restriction after missing two games due to a lower back contusion.
