NBA Betting News & Rumors: Sixers Are Open to Offers for Simmons

Other than free agency, there usually isn’t much action in the NBA during the month of July. However, this year is the exception. 2021 NBA Betting News & Rumors July 19th Edition

Will Any Superstars be Traded?

With the NBA Draft in just a few short days, the rumors are flying. This year, there are many big names that are rumored to be available. Damian Lillard, Ben Simmons, Pascal Siakam, and Collin Sexton are just a few of the names that we’ve heard could be available for the right price.

If Damian Lillard informs the Blazers that he no longer wants to be in Portland, the team that could put together the best package for him seems to be the Golden State Warriors. If the Blazers want to go into rebuild mode, the Warriors could offer James Wiseman, their two lottery picks in the 2021 draft, and some future picks for Lillard. The Warriors are in “win now” mode, so they would likely be willing to give up a lot of pieces to obtain Lillard.

It has been reported that the Philadelphia 76ers are open to offers for Ben Simmons. After Simmons’ disappointing performance in the playoffs, the Sixers seem to think that they would be better off without Simmons. They won’t just give him away, but he could be had for a discount price. We’ll see what teams throw out there for Simmons, but the Sixers turned down some significant offers prior to last season for Simmons. They are now probably frustrated that they turned those offers down.

Surprising Replacements

When it was reported that Bradley Beal and Kevin would not be able to compete for Team USA in the upcoming Tokyo Olympics, many names were suggested to be their replacements. Beal tested positive for COVID-19, while Love left the team due to injury. Many felt that the team needed a true point guard and another big man. After names such as Trae Young, Ja Morant, Zion Williamson, Brook Lopez, Tobias Harris, and De’Aaron Fox were mentioned as replacements, Gregg Popovich went a different route. He picked up San Antonio Spur Keldon Johnson from the Team USA Select Team and journeyman big man Javale McGee.

These two were very surprising choices. Many felt that Team USA needed some big names to fill in after their struggles in their exhibition games. Young and Morant have thrown some shade at USA Basketball on social media, so we may never see them in the red, white, and blue. We’ll see if Johnson and McGee were the right selections. Anything but a gold medal will be a major disappointment for the United States.
