The Memphis Grizzlies are not much fun to watch if you are a fan of high-powered offensive teams. Expect a major slog on Wednesday night as the Grizzlies and San Antonio Spurs face off for the third time this season. The Spurs are slight NBA betting favorites.

Season Series
Tied 1-1, both in San Antonio. On Nov. 21, DeMar DeRozan hit a go-ahead, pull-up jump shot with a little more than a second remaining, however, a foul on the Grizzlies final shot of the game led to a pair of made free throws from Marc Gasol, giving Memphis a 104-103 victory. DeRozan led all Spurs with 24 points. Mike Conley paced the Grizzlies with 30 points. Gasol added a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Last Saturday, the Spurs rolled to a 108-88 win. Derrick White continued his scoring surge with a team-high 19 points (8-9 FG, 1-1 3FG, 2-2 FT) on a nearly perfect shooting night. LaMarcus Aldridge posted 18 points (5-9 FG, 8-10 FT) and dished out a season-high 7 assists for them. Conley led the Grizz with 21 points.
The Spurs are 31-15 all-time in Memphis.
Why Bet on San Antonio?
The Spurs are really playing well right now and won a fifth straight on Monday, 119-107 in Detroit. The Spurs trailed 19-9 after the second of those two timeouts, but they appeared to get the message. A 23-2 run spanning parts of the first and second quarters put the Spurs up 45-33. It was relatively smooth sailing from there for San Antonio.
DeMar DeRozan led the way for the Spurs Monday in finishing the win with 26 points (12-of-21 FGs, 2-of-2 FTs), seven rebounds, nine assists, two steals and two blocks in 34 minutes. Two days after scoring 12 points on 3-of-10 shooting from the field DeRozan bounced back in a big way. At one point in the fourth quarter the All-Star guard made six consecutive shots, and this ended a run of four consecutive games in which he shot below 50% from the field. DeRozan is now shooting 47.4% from the field on the season while averaging 22.6 points per game.
LaMarcus Aldridge played 28 minutes Monday, finishing with 25 points (9-of-12 FGs, 7-of-8 FTs), six rebounds and two assists. Aldridge has now scored 23 points or more in six of his last seven games, and over the last five he’s averaging 27.2 points per game while shooting 63.0% from the field. Derrick White was a perfect 9-of-9 from the foul line Monday vs. the Pistons, finishing with 17 points (4-of-7 FGs), five rebounds and two assists. Over the last five games, the second-year guard is averaging 17.8 points per game, a little more than ten points above his average for the season (7.6 ppg).
The win was the 1,221st for Gregg Popovich. He’s tied with Jerry Sloan for third place on the NBA’s all-time list, trailing only Don Nelson and Lenny Wilkens. Popovich said that Rudy Gay (sprained left wrist) will not play Wednesday vs. the Grizzlies. Popovich didn’t sound too optimistic when asked about Gay’s availability for Thursday’s game against the Thunder, either. Jakob Poeltl has been filling Gay’s spot in the starting lineup.
Why Bet on Memphis?
The Grizzlies are going the other way, losing six in a row. It was 114-95 in New Orleans on Monday. New Orleans dominated inside, outscoring Memphis 70-42 in the paint and outrebounding the Grizzlies 40-36. Memphis turned the ball over 18 times, leading to 23 Pelicans points.
Mike Conley had 22 points and 10 assists for Memphis. Marc Gasol had another nightmare effort, scoring seven points on 3-of-10 shots in 29 minutes. He added five rebounds, four assists and one block before fouling out. Gasol hasn’t looked the same since his strong start to the season and is coming off a 6-point effort vs. the Spurs on Saturday. He’s a big reason the Grizz are 5-14 since the beginning of December.
Memphis coach J.B. Bickerstaff confirmed that Shelvin Mack has lost his backup point guard job to Jevon Carter. Carter was scoreless in 17 minutes vs. the Pelicans on Monday, adding four assists and two rebounds.
Over the last 11 games (Memphis: 2-9 record), Grizzlies opponents are making 13.5 three-pointers per game while shooting 38.5 percent from beyond the arc. Ten of the last 11 Grizzlies opponents have made double-digit treys. Memphis has made double-digit threes just twice in its last 16 games, averaging 7.9 threes on 31.1 percent shooting in that stretch.
Memphis has held an NBA-high seven opponents under 90 points this season, four more than the number of games the Grizzlies did not allow an opponent to reach 90 points in 2017-18.
