Phoenix Suns Analysis

The Suns won their third straight game Sunday, 120-113 vs. Charlotte ahead of this long road trip and to get back to .500. The Hornets — who were trying to beat the Suns for the second time in a week — pushed to a 98-93 lead after the third quarter and led for much of the fourth. But Kevin Durant hit a stepback jumper to give the Suns a 111-110 advantage with just over three minutes left. Durant found rookie Oso Ighodaro for a dunk to take a 115-113 lead. Royce O’Neale hit a 3-pointer for a 118-113 advantage with 41.5 seconds left and that was that.

Kevin Durant

Durant was terrific with 27 points, eight rebounds and five assists. He’s notched 20 or more points in 15 games in a row, averaging 28.3 points, 6.1 rebounds and 5.1 assists per game in that span. He has had at least 20 points without reaching 30 in seven straight games. Devin Booker totaled 30 points, eight assists and five rebounds. He has scored at least 30 points in three of his last four games, averaging 30.8 points, 8.5 assists and 4.8 rebounds per game during that span.

Devin Booker

“You try to keep everything the same, but you can feel it,” Booker said of momentum, noting he thinks the vibes are better over these last three games. “At this point we’ve dropped too many games and we need everyone. … The sense of urgency has to be high and we have a good example of what works for us and what doesn’t.”

Jusuf Nurkic

Center Nurkic was out after testing positive for the flu so he’s probably going to miss this game as well. Nurkic had been the starter but had been demoted recently to the bench. The veteran big man is known to be on the trade block, but his $18.13MM salary this season and a guaranteed $19.38MM salary for next season will make it difficult to move him. Nurkic has been linked to a possible trade to Charlotte for big man Nick Richards. The 7-footer is averaging 8.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.2 blocks in 21 minutes per game this season while shooting 56% overall.

Mason Plumlee

Plumlee got the start at center once again Sunday, but Oso Ighodaro replaced him to open the second half after Charlotte’s Mark Williams dominated the first two quarters. Ighodaro finished with 10 points and six rebounds and might have stolen the starting spot himself. Forward Royce O’Neale (left ankle sprain) returned from a six-game absence on Sunday and had nine points off the bench.

Grayson Allen

Guard Allen is in question Tuesday. He left Sunday’s game after playing 13 minutes for the Suns in the first half. He scored 13 points and shot 4-of-7 from the field, including 3-of-6 from three-point range. Allen has previously missed time this season due to a hamstring injury, Achilles soreness and being placed in the concussion protocol. He’s averaging 11.0 points per game.

Atlanta Hawks Analysis

Atlanta (19-19) will be well-rested as it hasn’t played since losing 123-115 in Phoenix last Thursday. The Hawks were supposed to host the Rockets on Saturday but that was postponed due to wintry weather in the city and no makeup date allowed. Trae Young led the Hawks with 21 points and seven assists in that Suns loss. It was his sixth straight game with at least 20 points.

Trae Young

Young enters Tuesday’s game with 3,543 career made field goals, the 11th-most made field goals in franchise history and only two away from passing Al Horford (3,544) for the 10th-most in club history…. Over the team’s just completed season-long six-game road trip, Young averaged 27.0 points, 11.5 assists, 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals in 33.8 minutes. Young dished out at least 10 dimes in three of his six outings.

Clint Capela

Capela had a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds in that Phoenix loss. It was the eighth double-double of the season and the 164th of his Hawks career, nine away from tying Dominique Wilkins for the 12th-most double-doubles in franchise history. Capela enters Tuesday’s game just two made free throws away from his 1,000th career makes from the charity stripe.

Vit Krejci

Backup point guard Krejci netted 12 points on 4-8 shooting from the field at Phoenix along with six assists and three rebounds. Over his last four outings, Krejci is averaging 12.0 points on .500% shooting from the field, in addition to a .522% clip from deep and 1.000% from the charity stripe, in addition to 3.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists in 26.3 minutes of play.

Zaccharie Risacher

Along with learning how to play in the NBA, Risacher had to adjust to a new culture when the Hawks selected him with the No. 1 pick in last year’s draft. This season is the first extended time Risacher has spent outside of his native France. He’s averaging 10.7points and 3.4 rebounds per game.

“I feel like I’m learning every day, and my English has started to get better,” he said. “Just being able to speak with everybody around here, it can be at the facility, within the organization, but also in real life with like people outside in my building, when I go to restaurants or whatever, I speak English all the time. So it really helped me to get better.”

Jalen Johnson

Forward Johnson (19.8 ppg, 10.1 rpg) hasn’t played since Jan. 3 due to a shoulder injury and wasn’t going to play Saturday if the game wasn’t postponed. He’s questionable for this one.

The Stats

This season, Atlanta ranks second in assists per game (29.9) and second in steals per game (10.29), the only team ranking top 5 in both categories. The club owns 22 games with 30+ assists this season, the second-most such games in the NBA this season and the fifth-most such games in a season in franchise history. Atlanta has swiped 10+ steals in 24 of its 38 games played this season, the second-most such games in the NBA and the most such games in an entire Hawks season since 2018-19 (25). Against Phoenix last time out, Atlanta tallied 32 assists and 11 steals.

Against the West

Despite Saturday’s game against Houston being postponed, Atlanta still leads the East in games played against the West this season (18). The Hawks have won 10 consecutive home contests against the Suns, dating back to 4/7/15. Over those 10 wins, the club is averaging 115.4 points, 48.9 rebounds and 25.3 assists, winning by an average of +12.5 points per game (115.4-102.9).

Suns vs Hawks Series History

This concludes the season series as on Jan. 9, the Suns beat the visiting Hawks 123-115 behind 25 points from Bradley Beal, 23 from Kevin Durant and 20 from Devin Booker despite shooting 0-for-8 from deep. Trae Young led the Hawks with 21 points and seven assists. Seven Atlanta players scored in double figures. Phoenix leads all-time 77-61 but trails 42-26 as the road team and has lost the past 10. The Suns have not won in Atlanta since March 24, 2014.

Suns vs Hawks Preview

With about a week and a half to go in the regular season, there are still a few little things that need to be taken care of before we can get into playoff mode. One of the best races in the NBA right now is in the Southeast Division, where Atlanta, Miami, and Charlotte are all just separated by a half game. It is the Hawks who have the slender lead at the moment, but they lost the opportunity to really open up a bit of a gap on the other two by losing back to back games last week. The Hawks have an unenviable schedule to close out the season, but they will start off their final batch of games with one that looks like it should be a guaranteed win. Atlanta will host the hapless Phoenix Suns at home on Tuesday night, and will hope that a win there can take them into their final batch of games with some much needed confidence. You can keep up with all the NBA betting odds at MyBookie.ag.

How To Bet the Phoenix Vs Atlanta NBA Odds, TV & Game Info

When: Tuesday, April 5 at 8 PM EST Where: Phillips Arena, Atlanta TV: FSAZ Radio: Suns and Hawks Live Stream: FoxSportsGo NBA Odds: TBA

Why bet on the Phoenix Suns

The Phoenix Suns (20-57) have the awful misfortune of playing in the same division as the Golden State Warriors, but the fact of the matter is that you could stick this team in any division and end up with the exact same result. Phoenix have struggled badly all season long, but they have been especially poor coming down the stretch. They head into this one having lost 6 straight, and only have 2 wins in their last 10 games. Their road record is just as bad, with only 7 wins to their name away from home all season long. On a brighter note, they did take down the Atlanta Hawks when they met them earlier this season. The Suns are averaging 100.3 PPG, and are giving up 100.6 PPG.

Why bet on the Atlanta Hawks

It really did look as though the Atlanta Hawks (45-32) were about to start opening up a gap at the top of their division, as they went through a stretch that saw then win 9 of 10 games. Their week came to a disappointing close over the weekend, though, as they took back to back losses at the hands of the Raptors and the Cavaliers. If Atlanta has hopes of making a deep playoff run, they are likely going to have to beat one of those teams in order for it to happen. With their next 3 games at home, where they are 24-14, you would expect the Hawks to get back to winning ways. Atlanta are averaging 102.9 PPG, and are giving up 99.2 PPG.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Atlanta Hawks need to shake off the disappointment of last week and start this one with a win. The arrival of the Suns in the ATL may well be just what the doctor ordered. Phoenix Suns 97 Atlanta Hawks 108
