Top NBA Betting Picks of the Week – January 16th Edition

L.A. Lakers (15-27) at Oklahoma City Thunder (23-20)

  • When: Wednesday, January 17, 2018, 8:00 PM ET
  • Where: Chesapeake Energy Arena, Oklahoma City, OK
  • TV: ESPN
The Los Angeles Lakers have won blocked out LaVar Ball’s foolish nonsense to win four consecutive games heading into their MLK day clash against the Memphis Grizzlies. L.A. picked up a hard-fought 107-101 win over Dallas on Saturday behind Jordan Clarkson’s huge fourth quarter. On the flip side of the coin, the Oklahoma City Thunder managed to snap their three-game skid by getting past the mediocre Charlotte Hornets 101-91 on Saturday as Russell Westbrook scored a team-high 25 points while adding 10 rebounds and seven assists. For this mid-week matchup, I’m going to advise you to back the Thunder to get the outright win at home simply because they’re 14-7 at Chesapeake Arena and the Lakers are an awful 6-13 on the road this season. While Oklahoma City has largely underachieved this season after acquiring both, Paul George and Carmelo Anthony, the Thunder does still have three perennial all-stars that know how to put the ball in the hole. I like the way the Lakers are playing right now, but Oklahoma City gets the big win in this one! NBA Betting Pick: Oklahoma City Thunder 110 – L.A. Lakers 98

Philadelphia 76ers (20-20) at Boston Celtics (34-10)

  • When: Thursday, January 18, 2018, 7:00 PM ET
  • Where: TD Garden, Boston, MA
  • TV: TNT
  • Streaming: NBA League Pass
Philadelphia has gone 6-4 over their last 10 and 5-1 over their last six games. The Sixers hit the new week coming off a thrilling 117-117 win over Toronto in Monday afternoon’s MLK Day matchup. Joel Embiid scored a team-high 34 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Philly to victory. However, heading into the new week, Boston was the hottest team in the league, having won gone 8-2 over their last 10 games while riding a fantastic seven-game winning streak into the current week. More importantly, the Celtics beat the Sixers in their last contest by picking up a 114-103 win over Philly on Thursday night in London as Kyrie Irving scored a team-high 20 points while dishing out seven assists and pulling down six rebounds. The Celtics will come in as favorites and should be your NBA Betting Pick against the Sixers. For this Thursday night TNT matchup, I’m going to advise you to back the Celtics to beat the Sixers for the fourth straight time this season. All three of Boston’s wins against their longtime division rivals have come by at least 10 points and I suspect that this nationally-televised affair will be no different. The Celtics are leading the league in fewest points allowed per game and they have a better cast of young stars surrounding perennial all-star Kyrie Irving. Philly is a lot better than they have been and you can see the potential they have with Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid, first and foremost, but right now, the Celtics are the far better team and will win this one at home, by eight! NBA Betting Pick: Boston Celtics 104 – Philadelphia 76ers 98

Golden State Warriors (35-9) at Houston Rockets (30-11)

  • When: Saturday, January 20, 2018, 8:30 PM ET
  • Where: Toyota Center, Houston, TX
  • TV: ABC
  • Streaming: NBA League Pass
Ho-hum, the Golden State Warriors have won eight of their last 10 games and two straight heading into the new week. The Dubs picked up a thrilling 127-125 win over the suddenly fantastic Toronto Raptors as Klay Thompson scored a team-high 26 points and Steph Curry added 24 points to help Golden State hold on after blowing a huge 27-point lead. Houston is just 5-5 over their last 10 games but has won three straight heading into the new week including a 112-95 win over Phoenix on Friday night that saw Chris Paul score a team-high 25 points to lead six teammates in double figures in scoring. While Houston is playing at home in this Saturday night showdown, I’m going to advise you to back the Golden State Warriors to get the outright win over their conference rivals for the second straight time this season after beating Houston 124-114 in H-Town on Jan. 4, following their season-opening 122-121 home loss to the Rockets on opening night. While both of these teams can score the ball in the blink of an eye, Golden State is the far better defensive teams and I believe you’ll see that play out in this contest, much like it did in their last meeting. Despite being on the road and getting a great effort from Houston, Golden State will get the ‘W’ to send a message that all roads to the NBA Finals out west will go through them! NBA Betting Pick: Golden State Warriors 123 – Houston Rockets 117
