Updated College Basketball Championship Odds – January 19th Edition

Western Conference Playoff Picture

  • 2-Houston Rockets
  • 3-San Antonio Spurs
  • 4-Minnesota Timberwolves
  • 5-Oklahoma City Thunder
  • 6-Portland Trail Blazers
  • 7-New Orleans Pelicans
  • 8-Los Angeles Clippers

Top Contenders NBA Championship Odds

  • Golden State Warriors: 10/17
  • Cleveland Cavaliers: 5/1
  • Houston Rockets: 9/1
  • Boston Celtics: 10/1
  • San Antonio Spurs: 14/1
  • Oklahoma City Thunder: 16/1
The Warriors (37-9) were already the best team in basketball before adding unselfish superstar Kevin Durant. Now, they ‘straight own’ the Cavaliers and look like a lock to win it all again this season, barring like five massive disasters. LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers (27-17) may make it to the NBA Finals, but this year, they look seriously vulnerable, so that’s not a given. Even if they do make it out of the east, read the above sentences on Golden State. They’re not beating the far superior Warriors! James Harden and the Houston Rockets (31-12) look like they can beat any team in the league – except Golden State. What?! Kyrie Irving said he ain’t nobody’s damned ‘Robin,’ to LeBron James’ Batman and he’s proved it! The Celtics (34-12) have a future that is so bright right now, that you need to wear sunglasses when looking at them. The Spurs (30-16) are going to win 50 games this season (again), but make no mistake about it, they’re not championship-caliber anymore. The Oklahoma City Thunder (25-20) might have Rusell Westbrook, Paul George, and Carmelo Anthony, but only one of the three (George) plays any defense and the Thunder will be an afterthought once the playoffs get underway and they have to face an elite team that actually plays together!

Pretenders NBA Championship Odds

  • Minnesota Timberwolves: 25/1
  • Toronto Raptors: 25/1
  • Milwaukee Bucks: 40/1
  • Miami Heat: 66/1
  • Washington Wizards: 66/1
The Timberwolves (29-18) are looking pretty damned good right now and I think they could challenge for a berth in the Western Conference Finals. I would just repeat the previous sentence about Minnesota for the Raptors, but then I keep remembering they don’t have much heart and anyone willing to throw down if it comes to that, outside of Serge Ibaka that is. The NBA Championship Odds for Minnesota are increasing week after week. Look, it’s not going to happen for Milwaukee or Miami this season – nor next, unless both franchises somehow make a blockbuster trade. The Bucks have become too dependent upon the Greek Freak and the Heat need a superstar to go with their other group of very good players. I picked the Wizards to beat my beloved Boston Celtics last season and I’m going to say they are still offering some excellent value as a whopping 66/1 pick, simply because they have a complete roster. Of course, the Wizards are the brightest bunch of ballers around, but they have heart, a pair of all-stars and a quartet of other very good players, so there’s that!
