Golden State Warriors

The Dubs brought back all of their core players by resigning veteran small forward Andre Iguodala, veteran point guard Shaun Livingston, veteran centers Zaza Pachulia and JaVale McGee, not to mention superstar forward Kevin Durant. You could make the case that Golden State got even better by adding a pair of sweet shooters in veterans like Nick ‘Swaggy P’ Young and Omri Casspi while adding former Oregon forwards Jordan Bell and Chris Boucher. Throw all of that into a mix that already includes superstars, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and a seriously underrated backup guard in Patrick McCaw and it’s easy to see the Dubs are prohibitive favorites to not only win the Western Conference again this season but the NBA Championship as well.

Houston Rockets

Key addition: Chris Paul

The Rockets made a huge addition signing veteran point guard Chris Paul and he’ll no doubt, get easier shots for MVP runner-up James Harden and veteran shooters like Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon. The Rockets also have some wily veterans in veteran two-way forward Trevor Ariza, veteran center Nene and newly acquired veterans P.J. Tucker and Luc Mbah A Moute. Houston also has some seriously gifted young talent in center Clint Capela and forward Troy Williams. Houston will have a very legitimate shot to reach the conference finals at the very least this coming season after falling just short a year ago.

San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs have one of the best players in the game today in superstar forward Kawhi Leonard and a bunch of other talented veterans in forwards LaMarcus Aldridge, Pau Gasol and Rudy Gay and backcourt stalwarts Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Danny Green and Patty Mills.

Yes, Oklahoma City re-signed superstar point guard and reigning MVP Russell Westbrook, while adding all-star forward Paul George and veteran scoring machine Carmelo Anthony to go along with some very good players in center Steven Adams, defensive-minded shooting guard Andre Robson and sweet shooting forward Kyle Singler, but I wondering who’s going to play defense on this team outside of George, Adams, and veteran forward Nick Collison, because Westbrook and ‘Melo certainly aren’t playing any. I will say that I love the addition of veteran forward Patrick Peterson, but the Thunder are clearly fighting an uphill battle this coming season.

Minnesota Timberwolves

The T-Wolves overhauled their roster a bit by bringing in veteran floor leader Jeff Teague, all-star swingman Jimmy Butler and veterans Jamal Crawford and Taj Gibson to go along with young stars Andrew Wiggins and Karl Anthony Towns. Minnesota has an excellent head coach in Tom Thibodeau and some really good talent in swingman Shabazz Muhammad and center Gorgui Deng among others, but if Thibs doesn’t let his team get out and run offensively while screaming about defense, defense, defense, they’ll have no shot to beat teams that can put 120 on the board like nothing in Golden State and Houston.

I really like the Rockets and I’m a huge Spurs fan, but jeez, unless there’s a major injury to either Steph Curry or Kevin Durant, I just don’t see anyone getting past a Golden State Warriors team that got a bit better by adding two more sweet shooters and two young big men. The Dubs have perfected their style of play, they’ve checked their egos and the door and found out a way to sacrifice even more last season after Durant came on board to join their three already incumbent all-stars. The Rockets will need to play some sort of defense at some point and the Spurs will need LaMarcus Aldridge to start playing like an aggressive max contract player (he won’t). Believe it or not, Minnesota could really surprise this coming season, but I’m thinking Tom Thibodeau is going to keep his team from playing a bit of fun-filled offense despite the fact that they have plenty of players that can put the ball in the hole.
