Each team in the NBA has now played about 20 games, which means we have about a quarter of the season in the books. This is a good time to take a look at the odds to see how they match up with how things have gone to this point. It is worth remembering that we are still relatively early in the season, so we can still expect to see some changes between now and the end of the year. Good team who are off to a slow start are likely to begin climbing, while others will falter along the way. Rather than looking at the championship, we thought it might be a good idea to look at the favorites to win each conference. With that in mind, let’s get right to it so you can keep planning your bets and place them against their NBA Conference odds.
Teams That Look Favored To Win Each 2021 NBA Conference
Eastern Conference
The Brooklyn Nets were among the favorites at the start of the season, but after swinging the trade to land James Harden, the Nets (+150) are now the clear favorites in the East. They have had a bit of a wobbly start, if we are being honest, but they are putting together a winning streak now and have moved to 12-8 on the season. That has them in 4th in the conference, but also just a game and a half out of first.
The Milwaukee Bucks (+330) have been a bit of a surprise this season in that they are not anywhere near the dominant force they have been the past couple of seasons. Still, they are 11-6 right now and sitting in second in the East. You also get the sense that this team can step it up a gear or two as the season progresses, but will that carry over into the postseason, where they have come up short the past two years.
The Philadelphia 76ers (+550) look like a good bet right now, as they are currently sitting on top in the Eastern Conference. It’s not a huge lead, though, and it does look as though we are going to see a battle for first as the season progresses.
Western Conference
If you look at the Western Conference odds, it certainly looks as though we are in for a two-horse race. It is no surprise that the LA Lakers (+110) are in as the favorites, as they are the defending champions, but they are sitting a little off the pace at the moment behind the surprising Utah Jazz.
The LA Clippers (+300) are the team that everyone expected to be the biggest threat to the Lakers this season and they are living up to those expectations in the early going. The Clippers are in 3rd and a game back of the Lakers, as well as being a game and a half out of first.
The surprise of the season is the Utah Jazz (+850), who are currently sitting at the top of the Western Conference. The Jazz are on a 10-game winning streak at the moment, but is that a sign that they are in this for the long haul, or is it a bubble waiting to be burst. It is going to be interesting to review the odds again at the midway point of the season.
