With the calendar now displaying the current month as February, we can really start to think about the magic that is March Madness. It’s one of the top events in the sports year for bettors, so it’s perhaps no real surprise that many are already starting to think about who they might want to bet on to win the National Championship.
After all, the odds that you can get by making a play now may be the best price you will get, which makes getting in early a good idea. There is still a lot of basketball to be played and the top team’s fight for rankings that will give them an easier path through the tournament. Let’s take a closer look at a few of the teams that the bookies see as the odds favorites to win the 2019 National Championship.
Updated 2019 NCAA Basketball Championship Odds – February 4th
Here is Sunday morning’s updated @CBSSports Top 25 And 1 daily college basketball rankings — with some words on Tennessee at the top.
1. Tennessee 2. Virginia 3. Gonzaga 4. Duke 5. Michigan 6. Kentucky 7. UNC 8. Nevada 9. Michigan State 10. Marquette … https://t.co/VEDCcP34MP — Gary Parrish (@GaryParrishCBS) 3 de febrero de 2019
Duke Blue Devils
One of the most iconic teams in college basketball is once again the favorite to win it all this year, as the Duke Blue Devils have been flirting with the #1 spot all season long.
They have a coach that always seems to instill a winning personality in the kids that he brings into the team each year, which has allowed the Blue Devils to stay relevant a lot longer than most. Duke always seems to bring a good team into every season, but there are some who believe that this may be the best starting 5 that they have had in quite some time.
Gonzaga Bulldogs
After losing back to back games earlier in the season, the Gonzaga Bulldogs are now on a roll, winning 12 straight games since taking those losses. They are running away with the WCC regular season title right now and are 2 ½ games up on BYU in second.
This piece was put together prior to the release of the most current rankings, but given how things have played out over the last week, it would not be a surprise to see the Bulldogs move up from the #4 spot. It would also not be a surprise to see them win out in the regular season.
Michigan State Spartans
With back to back losses to end the week, the Spartans are almost certainly going to slide down the rankings when they are released on Monday afternoon.
Despite those losses, this is still a team that has all the tools to make a deep run when March Madness gets underway. If you have been thinking about playing the Spartans to win it all, now may be the time to get in on the action, as their odds are likely going to drop to a point where they become a legitimate value bet.
Virginia Cavaliers
The Cavaliers have come as close as it gets to being perfect this season without actually doing it. They are sitting at 20-1 on the year, with their lone loss being a 72-70 defeat on the road to Duke, who just happened to be the #1 team in the nation at that point.
The talk has always been that defense wins championships, and if that does indeed prove to be the case this year, then you need to take a serious look at a Cavaliers team that has the best defensive record in the country.
