2020-21 College Basketball Week 9 Power Rankings Update

With a new week of college basketball action here, it’s time to answer a few of simple questions. Who’s movin’ on up like George and Weezy? Who’s national ranking has taken a hit? Which teams are looking like legitimate national championship contenders and which ones now look like pretenders? Let’s find out what’s going on with the national Top 25 right now so you can continue making your bets against their College Basketball odds.

College Basketball Power Rankings Update Jan. 20th Edition

The Top 5

The top three teams in the country remained in their same spots, but No. 4 Texas fell one spot to No. 5 following their 79-77 home loss against now, No. 12 Texas Tech last Wednesday. The Longhorns bounced back to smack K-State senseless 82-67 on Saturday and now sit in fifth place. Previously No. 5 Iowa moved up one spot to fourth and routed Northwestern 96-73 on Sunday.

Who’s Up

No. 18 Alabama (11-3) made the biggest leap by moving up eight spots after routing Arkansas 90-59 on Saturday and blowing out LSU 105-75 on Tuesday night. No. 15 Ohio State (11-3) is up six spots, but the Buckeyes head further into the new week fresh off a crushing 67-65 home loss against Purdue on Tuesday night.

No. 17 Minnesota (11-4) is up six spots after snapping a two-game skid by stunning No. 7 Michigan 75-57 on Saturday. No. 6 Tennessee (10-1) is up four spots, but the Vols might not remain in this spot after getting blown out by Florida 75-49 on Tuesday. No. 8 Houston (11-1) is up three spots after downing Central Florida 75-58 on Sunday.

No. 12 Texas Tech (11-4) is up three spots after stunning Texas on Wednesday. However, the Red Raiders could lose this spot come next week after suffering a humbling 68-60 home loss against No. 2 Baylor on Saturday.  No. 13 Virginia (9-2) is up five spots after their emphatic 85-50 blowout win over previously No. 12 Clemson on Saturday night.

More Teams On The Move!

No. 16 Virginia Tech (11-2) is up four spots. No. 21 Oregon (9-2) is up one spot. No. 23 UConn (7-1) is up two spots after breaking into the Top 25 a week ago.  No. 24 UCLA (11-2) is up two spots.

Who’s Down

No. 20 Clemson (9-2) is down a whopping eight spots after their aforementioned blowout loss to Virginia on Saturday. No. 22 Illinois (9-5) is down eight spots as well after their 87-81 home loss against now, No. 15 Ohio State on Saturday.

No. 9 Kansas (10-3) is down three spots following its 77-69 road loss against No. 2 Baylor last Tuesday. The Jayhwaks’ conference clash against Iowa State was postponed because of positive COVID-19 tests and contract tracing in the Cyclones’ program.

No. 11 Creighton (10-3) is down three spots after falling to Butler 70-66 in overtime on Saturday. No. 10 Wisconsin (11-3) is down one spot. No. 14 West Virginia (9-4) and No. 25 St. Louis is down one spot moving further into the new week. No. 19 Missouri (8-2) is down two spots despite winning two straight including an 81-70 home win over South Carolina on Tuesday night.
