NCAA Basketball Top Games to Watch This Weekend
No. 8 Texas (7-1) at No. 3 Kansas (8-1) at 12:00 PM ET
- When: Saturday, Jan. 2 at 12:00 PM ET
- Where: Allen Fieldhouse, Lawrence, KS
- TV: ESPN2
Texas has only lost only once this season, to now, fifth-ranked Villanova, 68-64 on Dec. 6. Kansas has only been beaten by top-ranked Gonzaga, 102-90 in their season-opener on Nov. 26. Make no mistake about it, this Big 12 matchup could be the best of the entire weekend.
No. 10 Iowa (8-2) at No. 14 Rutgers (7-1)
- Where: Rutgers Athletic Center, Piscataway, NJ
- When: Saturday, Jan. 2 at 2:00 PM ET
- TV: ESPN2
10th-ranked Iowa and 14th-ranked Rutgers will both look to record consecutive victories after bouncing back from losses in their respective last games. Hawkeyes All-American Luka Garza is coming off a season-low 18-point outing against Northwestern but Rutgers‘ star Ron Harper Jr. might not be at full strength after sitting out the Scarlet Knights’ last game with a sprained ankle.
No. 24 Virginia Tech (8-1) at No. 23 Virginia (5-2)

No. 24 Virginia Tech has won four straight and upset No. 5 Villanova 81-73 in overtime on Nov. 28. No. 23 Virginia bounced back from its embarrassing drubbing against top-ranked Gonzaga to beat Notre Dame 66-57 on Wednesday. Virginia Tech has the slightly better offense, but Virginia has the edge on defense in this in-state battle.
No. 20 Duke (3-2) at No. 18 Florida State (5-2)

20th-ranked Duke bounced back from its humbling 83-68 home loss against Illinois to beat Notre Dame 75-65 on Dec. 16. 18th-ranked Florida State has dropped two of its last three including a stunning 77-67 road loss at Clemson on Tuesday. Duke has won five straight in this ACC rivalry, but three of those wins have come by five points or less.
No. 25 Ohio State (8-2) at No. 21 Minnesota (9-2)
- Where: Williams Arena, Minneapolis, MN
- When: Sunday, Jan. 3
No. 25 Ohio State bounced back from its crushing loss against Northwestern in its previous game to crush Nebraska 90-54 on Wednesday night. No. 21 Minnesota has its three-game winning streak snapped in Thursday’s humbling 71-59 beat-down loss against Wisconsin. Minnesota has the edge in scoring, but Ohio State has a bigger edge in points allowed.
No. 19 Northwestern (6-2) at No. 16 Michigan (8-0)

- When: Sunday, Jan. 3
Northwestern had its fantastic three-game run of Big Ten upsets snapped in its humbling 87-72 road loss against Iowa on Tuesday. Michigan moved to a perfect 8-0 on the season by getting past Maryland 84-73 on Thursday night. Michigan has won three straight in this Big Ten rivalry including a 74-59 road win last season.
