Why Bet On Arizona?

Arizona is a stellar road team – just think back to the 11-point win that Arizona recorded at UCLA a couple of weeks ago. Sean Miller’s team is actually scoring just as well away from Tucson as it is at home, to the tune of 1.17 points per possession. Lauri Markkanen is shooting a rather incredible 60 percent on his 3s in Pac-12 play, and Dusan Ristic is more or less matching that percentage inside the arc. When you can reliably make both 2s and 3s, your offense will travel well. Defense is guard Kadeem Allen’s calling card — some even think it could allow him to punch his ticket onto an NBA roster — but Miller thinks Allen is undervalued as an offensive player as well. “He’s, to me, an underrated offensive player for us because he scores big baskets,” Miller said. “An all-defensive team player, a potential all-conference player, that’s who he is.” Allen is averaging just north of 10 points per game, and Miller thinks he can contribute even more on that end by taking more 3s. Allen is shooting 45 percent from 3, but is only averaging 2.2 attempts per game. Markkanen hit the turn of Pac-12 play as Arizona’s leading scorer and rebounder at 17.8 points and 8.0 rebounds per conference game. The freshman did so while shooting 59.3 percent from the field, 60.0 percent from beyond the arc and 86.2 percent at the free throw line. He is the only player in the conference to rank in the top ten in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, free throw percentage and three-point field goal percentage during conference play. Miller earned his 100th Pac-12 win in last Sunday’s victory over Washington. The win came in his 135th conference game at the helm of the program, winning 74.1 percent of his Pac-12 games en route to the 100th win.

Why Bet On Oregon?

The deep Ducks are the only team in the Pac-12 that does not have an individual among the conference’s top 20 in scoring. Three of the Ducks’ top four scorers are Canadian: Chris Boucher (13.0 ppg), Dillon Brooks (13.7 ppg) and, Dylan Ennis (11.6 ppg). Oregon is one of nine schools in the NCAA this season – and the only power conference team – to have three different players score at least 28 points in a game. Brooks netted 28 against USC (Dec. 30), Tyler Dorsey had 28 at Washington (Jan. 4) and Boucher scored 29 at Washington State (Jan. 7). What’s more, Oregon and Tennessee Tech are the only teams in the NCAA to have accomplished that feat in three consecutive games. Oregon made it 21st consecutive appearance in the Associated Press poll this week, which is tied for the longest streak in school history. The Ducks were ranked for 21 consecutive weeks over the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons. Oregon has held 20-of- 23 opponents under 70 points this season. The only three teams to eclipse 70 points are Army (77) in the season opener, UCLA (87) on Dec. 28 and Colorado (74) on Jan. 28. The Ducks lead the nation at 7.4 blocks per game, and also lead the nation in total blocks with 162. Individually, Boucher is 11th nationally in blocks per game (2.8), with Jordan Bell 35th (2.1 bpg). Under coach Dana Altman, Oregon has a 38-16 record (.704) during the second half of Pac-12 play. That breaks down to 4-5 in 2011, 7-2 in 2012, 5-4 in 2013, 7-2 in 2014, 8-1 in 2015, and 7-2 in 2016. Only Arizona (41) has won more over the last six seasons. Oregon’s winning streak at Matthew Knight Arena is currently at 39 games, which is the longest string of home wins in UO history. Oregon last dropped a home game Jan. 8, 2015 (Arizona, 80-62). Two of Oregon’s four longest home winning streaks have come under Altman. Under Altman, Oregon is 118-14 when holding opponents under 70 points, including an 86-6 mark the last five seasons.
