Last Season
These schools play just one scheduled meeting this year as they did last. And boy was that one ugly offensively – as I expect Tuesday’s to be. Miami pulled off a 54-48 overtime win in Charlottesville. Bruce Brown made a 3-pointer with 23.8 seconds left in overtime – Brown, one of UM’s best players, is currently out this season with a broken foot and likely won’t be back until the NCAA Tournament. He had 14 points in that victory. Kamari Murphy and Dejan Vasiljevic added 10 points each. Devon Hall scored 15 points to lead Virginia, which lost its fourth in a row at the time for the first time since Tony Bennett’s first season as coach in 2009-10. Isaiah Wilkins added 10 points and 10 rebounds, including two free throws with four seconds left in regulation to tie it. UVA is 9-12 all-time vs. Miami in the series that began in 1965-66. Nine of the last 10 meetings between the teams have been decided by nine points or less. Overtime has decided two of the last five meetings between the teams. Why Bet on Virginia’s College Basketball Lines?
Even though UVA comes off a shocking home loss to unranked Virginia Tech on Saturday, the Cavs were named the No. 1 team in the AP Top 25 on Monday – but not the Coaches’ Poll. The Cavaliers earned 30 of 65 first-place votes in Monday’s latest poll to outdistance No. 2 Michigan State. It’s the first time since December 1982 that Virginia is No. 1. As noted, the Wahoos were upset 61-60 in OT on Saturday by rival Virginia Tech. With 39.1 seconds left, senior forward Isaiah Wilkins made both ends of a one-and-one to give Virginia a 59-54 lead. From there, though, the Cavaliers unraveled. Devon Hall had 16 points for Virginia (23-2, 12-1), but the 93.3 percent free throw shooter missed twice from the line in the final 31 seconds. De’Andre Hunter added 14 points and Kyle Guy 13 for the Cavaliers, who shot just 34.4 percent, making 21 of 61 shots. It ended Virginia’s 15-game winning streak, 15-game ACC winning streak and 16-game home winning streak. Virginia limited its 24th opponent to less than 50 percent shooting (Virginia Tech — 43.1%). Virginia Tech’s 17-0 run in the first half marked a season-high vs. UVA. UVA’s scoring drought of 7:35 in the first half marked a season-high. The 12-point first half lead (27-15) by Virginia Tech marked a season high vs. UVA. Overall, Virginia shot 28.9 percent on 3-pointers. UVA ranks No. 1 in the KenPom.com overall and adjusted defense efficiency ratings and No. 45 in the adjusted offense efficiency ratings. UVA is shooting 46.1 percent, 38.2 percent from 3-point range and 76.9 percent from the free throw line (best in school history). UVA has shot 50 percent or better in nine games and limited its opponents to less than 50 percent shooting in 24 of 25 games. Why Bet on Miami’s College Basketball Lines?
The Hurricanes were upset at Boston College on Saturday, 72-70, to fall out of the Top 25. Boston College scored the game’s final nine points and held the Hurricanes scoreless for the final six minutes, 17 seconds in rallying for the win. The Hurricanes (18-6, 7-5 ACC) were led by DJ Vasiljevic, who scored 17 points and hit 5-of-10 from 3-point range. Chris Lykes added 16, while Ja’Quan Newton scored 11. Jerome Robinson led BC (15-10, 5-7) with 29 points, while Ky Bowman scored 24. BC shot an even 50 percent (25-50) for the game, while Miami hit on 43.4 percent (23-53), but just 7-of-25 (28 percent) in the second half.
