DePaul vs Providence College Hoops Betting Match Up

Written by on February 25, 2016

It has been proven this season just how hard it is to stay in the top 25 in the national rankings, as there have been more upsets on record than I can remember seeing in recent years. This makes March Madness look as though it might be crazier than normal this season, as there doesn’t appear to be a clear favorite. One of the teams that essentially dropped out of sight this year was the Providence Friars. They started the month of February ranked #11, but have since plummeted out of the realms of the ranked. Whether they can squeeze their way back in before the regular season ends remains to be seen, but it certainly looks as though they have a manageable game on their hands this weekend with DePaul coming to town. This one is well worth a wager, and you can get your bets on by visiting our NCAA basketball Odds page.

Why bet on the DePaul Blue Demons

I do enjoy a good challenge, and finding a reason to bet on the DePaul Blue Demons (8-18, 2-12) certainly falls into that category. DePaul have been nothing short of brutal during conference play, and just how bad they have been was highlighted last week when St. Johns ended a 16-game losing skid by taking out the Blue Demons. DePaul will face that same St. Johns team again on Thursday night before heading to Providence to face the Friars. If they lose that return match-up, they are sure to arrive a despondent bunch. If there is any reason to bet on them, it has to come from the fact that they beat Providence 77-70 last time out, which just happens to be the only game they have won in their last 7. The Blue Demons are averaging 67.8 PPG, and are giving up 74.2 PPG.

Why bet on the Providence Friars

As mentioned earlier, the Providence Friars (19-8, 7-7) rolled into the month of February in the #11 spot, but 4 losses in 5 games this month has seen them take a spectacular tumble down and out of the rankings. Their fall from grace actually began with their 77-70 loss to the Blue Demons, and you have to wonder of their rebirth to end the season can begin with a win over DePaul. They have a pair of very manageable games after their Saturday tilt versus the Blue Demons, and while winning all three is not likely to take them back to their former standings, it could give them some much-needed confidence heading into the Tournament. The Friars are averaging 74.1 PPG, and are giving up 69.9 PPG so far this season.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Neither one of these teams is really doing very much to convince bettors to have a little flutter on them, but I still believe there is a clear favorite here. I like the Friars to get a little revenge on home court, so I am taking them to win this one by 8. DePaul Blue Demons 68 Providence Friars 76
