Dog Ranked Teams Tagged as Favorites To Win March Madness

Even in a season in which no team could maintain the No. 1 overall ranking for more than a few weeks at a time, all things are not created equal in the world of college basketball online betting. You see, when it comes to being  legitimate national championship title contender, not every team ranked inside the national Top 25 is a legitimate candidate to bring home the bacon when the 2016 NCAA March Madness Championship Tournament gets underway on March 15.

    Having said that, I’m going to highlight several teams that may be ranked inside the national Top 25, but really aren’t what could be considered ‘favorites’ despite their respective lofty rankings. Okay, let’s get started with a bit of history. The lowest seed to win the national championship since the tournament expanded to 64 teams is Villanova in 1985. The eighth-seeded Wildcats took out powerful Big East conference rival and No. 1 seed Georgetown and future Hall of Fame center Patrick Ewing. The underdog has won each of the last two NCAA titles and three of the last six overall. A team that was not a No. 1 seed in its respective region has won the national championship five times in the last 13 years

No. 7 Miami (FL) 30/1

The seventh-ranked Hurricanes (24-6) are one of my top ‘underdog’ picks to pull off the March Madness upset and at 30/1, the Canes are certainly worth the wager, having beaten legitimate title contenders like Utah, Virginia, Duke and Louisville.

No. 9 Oregon 30/1

The ninth-ranked Ducks (25-6) are also one of my favorite underdog picks to pull off the tourney win come March Madness despite the fact that they don’t play the best competition around in the so-so Pac-12. Still Oregon has beaten elite teams in Arizona and Utah this season and play great ‘team’ basketball.

No. 10 West Virginia 30/1

The 10th-ranked Mountaineers (24-7) are absolutely dangerous and a team that almost has to be wagered on at a stellar 30/1 in my opinion. Sure, they’ve come up short against Oklahoma twice this season, but Bob Huggins’ ballclub has also beaten Kansas and that tells me that the Mountaineers could beat anyone.

No. 12 Indiana 45/1

Indiana (25-6) don’t get nearly the same amount of national attention that Big Ten rival Michigan State does, but it is the Hoosiers that are both, sitting atop the conference standings and on fire right now, even if I can’t forget about their 19-point loss to the Spartans two weeks ago.

No. 14 Maryland 22/1

I love the 14th-ranked Maryland’ (24-7) athleticism and I believe they’re as dangerous as any team in the nation. Maryland has one of the best clutch players in the country in guard Melo Trimble  but they’re struggling at the worst time possible having lost four of their last six games.

No. 15 Purdue 40/1

Make no mistake about it college basketball betting enthusiasts, Purdue (24-7) is completely dangerous as their thrilling 82-81 overtime win over Michigan State in early February showed. With a defense that ranks 28th in the country (64.9 ppg) and a team scheme on offense, I say Purdue could surprise.
