Alas, now they are down to No. 15 following two losses and in for a likely tough fight on Wednesday at rival Miami, which just took care of another ranked foe on the Hurricanes’ home floor. They will be slight favorite here as well in NCAAB lines.

Why Bet On Florida State?

The Noles (18-4) were upset 82-72 at Syracuse on Saturday. Dwayne Bacon and Jonathan Isaac each had 19 points and Xavier Rathan-Mayes 16 as the Seminoles lost back-to- back games for the first time this season. A little more than a week ago, Florida State (18-4, 6-3 ACC) wrapped up a six-game stretch of consecutive games against ranked teams, and the Seminoles won five of those games to vault into a tie for first place in the ACC standings with North Carolina at 6-1. A 78-56 loss at Georgia Tech on Wednesday night was an eye-opener, as was Syracuse’s dominant first half. Florida State trailed by 18 at the break. Florida State has played just four true road games this season – and currently has a 1-3 record in those games. Bacon, who has scored in double figures in 31 consecutive games, has been named to the midseason watch list for the Oscar Robertson Trophy. The trophy is presented by the USBWA and is presented to the National Player of the Year at the conclusion of the season. Isaac, who with his 7.8 rebounds per game average is the leading rebounder among freshmen in the ACC, has been named to the Wayman Tisdale Award midseason watch list. The trophy is presented each year to the national freshman Player of the Year. The Noles are looking for their 19th overall win and seventh in the ACC here this season. The Seminoles earned their 19th win of the 2015-16 season with a victory over Boston College – in the first round of the ACC Tournament on March 8, 2016; Florida State won its seventh ACC game of the 2015-16 season against Notre Dame on February 26, 2016. Florida State ranks second in the ACC in scoring. The Seminoles scored a season-high 118 points in their victory over Nicholls State (December 8) and have scored at least 80 points in 14 of their 22 games.

The Hurricane stomped No. 9 North Carolina 77-62 on Saturday. Freshman Bruce Brown was a one-man wrecking crew as he finished the game with 30 points, connecting on 8-of- 11 shots from the field. Brown’s 30-point performance was the most by a Miami freshman since UM joined the ACC in 2004-05. Reaching the 30-point mark, the Boston native is the first Hurricane since Sheldon McClellan (31), Jan. 25, 2014 against Charlotte, to hit the mark. Miami’s win over North Carolina handed the Hurricanes their first win over a top 10 team this season and the first over a top 10 opponent since the Hurricanes downed No. 3 Virginia last season. The win was Miami’s fifth in its last seven meetings against the Tar Heels. The win also was the Hurricanes’ second-largest victory over the Tar Heels and their largest since 2013. Teammates Ja’Quan Newton and Davon Reed also chipped in as they scored in double figures, finishing with 18 and 14 points, respectively. The Hurricanes defeated North Carolina in nearly every statistical category including rebounds (41-36) and points in the paint (28-22). UNC entered the game as the No. 1 rebounding team in the nation, averaging 45.9 rebounds per game. For seven consecutive games, North Carolina had scored at least 85 points, which was a school record. Miami’s zone defense, an improvisation of Coach Jim Larranaga’s after preparing almost exclusively to play man-to- man, never came close to letting that happen Saturday. UM held North Carolina to shoot 20.7 percent (6-29) from the field and 22.2 percent (2-9) from beyond the arc in the opening half. The Canes did not allow a field goal in the closing 8:36 of the half.
