Go Mad During March Madness With These Betting Tips

Look for Value-Packed Underdogs

It doesn’t matter what round you’re betting on. If you can find underdogs that are offering a ton of value and have a great chance to cover the spread, then you should jump all over them – after you analyze all the key trends and betting statistics involved. Even if you don’t like an underdog to win outright, you’ll still be able to identify which dogs are offering the most value as far as covering the spread is concerned.

Hot or Not

If you didn’t know before, now you do. March Madness is all about momentum! Teams that come into the tournament with a lot of momentum typically have a much better chance of extending their winning ways than a team that struggled down the stretch or one that barely made the tournament field. On the other hand, if you can find teams that are entering the tournament struggling are good teams to bet against right off the bat.

Defense Wins Championships – And Makes Money

One of the most important NCAA betting tips you should know is that teams that play outstanding defense are great teams to bet on as opposed to ballclubs that are good offensive teams but play little to no defense. Conversely, you may not want to bet a ton on a team that plays good defense but conversely struggles to score at the offensive end of the floor.

12 vs. 5 and 11 vs. 6

By now, March Madness college basketball bettors know that there is almost always a big upset during the first round of the tournament and that it often involves a 12-seed upsetting a 5-seed or an 11 seed beating a 6 seed. In three of the last four NCAA tournaments more than one 12 seed has advanced, with 2015 being the exception. However, in 2015, two 14 seeds (UAB and Georgia State), and two 11 seeds (Dayton and UCLA) won in the first round. Just four times in the past 33 years there has not been an upset by a number 12 seed while 11 seeds have gone 43-81 over the same span.

Quality Competition

Some teams compile amazing regular season records against inferior competition (Gonzaga) but don’t nearly live up to their glossy records when they face quality competition. Don’t bet on a team because they have an impressive regular season record – unless you know they’ve recorded some of those wins against quality competition.
