Why Bet on Iowa State?

Iowa State (9-12) has been a massive disappointment this season and lost a third game in a row Saturday, 72-68 at Texas. Courtney Ramey’s 3-pointer with 1:06 to play gave Texas the lead and Matt Coleman III’s two late free throws closed out the win.

Texas fought back from an eight-point deficit in the second half. Ramey led the charge, scoring eight points of Texas’ 10 points in the run to take the lead. A 3 by Ramey and a dunk by Jericho Sims got Texas within 65-63 before Ramey made his 3 from the left wing for the lead. IS led most of the game and twice built the lead as high as eight points in the second half. The Cyclones still don’t have a win on an opponent’s home court this season.

Tyrese Haliburton tied for the team-high with 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field for ISU. The sophomore guard added five rebounds, five assists and three steals in 40 minutes of action. He has been announced as one of 10 candidates for the 2020 Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year Award.

Haliburton is averaging 15.7 points, 6.8 assists, 6.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals, the only player nationally to average those marks. He has scored in double figures in 17 games this season and is one of 18 players to record a triple-double, posting 22 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists against TCU. Haliburton is shooting 50 percent from the field, 41 percent behind the arc and 83.7 percent at the free-throw line. Haliburton is three three-pointers away from becoming the 21st player in school history to make 100 career three-pointers.

West Virginia is one of four Big 12 schools that ISU owns an edge in the all-time series; the others are Baylor, TCU and Texas Tech. ISU head coach Steve Prohm is 3-6 against West Virginia and Bob Huggins.

Bob Huggins earned his 877th career win to move past Kentucky’s Adolph Rupp into seventh place all time in Division I.

Sean McNeil sank a pair of free throws to cap a 9-0 run that gave the Mountaineers their largest lead, 49-35, with nine minutes remaining. Kansas State got no closer than eight points after that.
